Time Magazine interviewing fan fiction writers

(Wasn't sure where to put this, it's time-sensitive, no pun intended, and would make a good read if you didn't want to be a part of it. Questions go up at 3pm, eastern I assume?)

From the community info:

This community was set up to give Lev Grossman of Time Magazine a place to be able to interview and converse with fan fiction writers on their own terms for an upcoming artlcle on fan fiction. IP logging is off; inclusion in search engines is minimized. Please join the community and join the conversation. Pseudonymity will be respected.

This community is currently friendslocked, but it has has open membership; if you are a fanfiction writer, please do join.

Lev Grossman is an novelist and journalist, notably the author of the novels Codex and The Magicians. He is also a senior writer and book critic for Time Magazine. He was the author of the Time Person of the Year 2006 article on "You" and the 2010 Persona of the Year article on Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. His novels have been reviewed by FantasyBookReview, among others; he says that he wrote The Magicians, which is itself sort of Narnia fanfiction, because, "I hadn’t yet gotten over my bitterness that I hadn’t been plucked out of my boring, humdrum world and chosen to be a king.”"

If you have any questions about this community or its purpose, please contact Francesca Coppa through the Communications contact form at the Organization For Transformative Works.

Thanks for mentioning this, entkayjay. After some thought, I've decided to participate even though I'm a little leery of the turn it'll take once published in Time magazine. (I remember too many other pieces about internet communities and fandom where the article just added to the already ridiculous way they are portrayed in the media.) it's the org vetting it that helped me decide.

Yes, I have my differences with the OTW but overall they're a good organization, and if they say the author is okay enough, then I do trust that.

I wasn't going to take part but may dip my toes in here and there -- as I did!

I answered. Why the hell not? It's been interesting seeing what other people have said, too.

I chose to participate as well. (And I passed on the link to my other two fandoms.) There were some wonderful comments. I hope the author attempts to give us a fair shake!

I hope so too.

Aquarius: Ask me sometime in email and I'll tell you about my experience with another popular magazine that almost put me off EVER answering any of these kinds of calls.

Just wanted to let you know that the article is up: http://www.time.com/time/arts/article/0,8599,2081784,00.html

I'm only a second page in, but so far it seems well-written and fair.

I like it! (And considering my jaded expectations, that's high praise.) It's well written and covers a lot, especially given the word-limit constraints the author had for a Time magazine article.

I was impressed with how it turned out. I think I might actually link this on FB so that my friends lose some of their misconceptions about fan fiction.
