Doctor Who

I'd be dating myself if I said my first Doctor was Tom Baker (but to be fair I was a child).

Still, I confess to being more fond of the newer show iterations. I think that breaks a fundamental rule of Doctor Who fandom. You're supposed to like your first doctor best. But - I adore David Tennant. Adore.

Anyway, since LR is writing a crossover Doctor Who fic, it's time to start a thread.

Allons-y. :P

I grew up watching DW reruns, mostly of Tom Baker. Though I liked Eccleston and LOVED Tennant. And I like Matt Smith too.

Question: Who thinks River Song is the Doc's wife?? She's so badass. :P

I started watching Dr. Who when Tennant was the doctor and he is so :smitten

Only have seen the first episodes with Matt Smith, but I liked him. Like Amy too.

I confess that I didn't have much use for DW as a teen. After the sleekness of the SW and ST films, to my eye, DW had the production value of a high school play. I didn't know about stuff like the BBC not having any money or anything like that. I just tried to watch it and couldn't get into it.

So later, in 2005, when the Chris Eccleston version premiered, I was apprehensive. In fact, the ex had to coerce me away from the computer to come watch it. And I was blown away. I was a faithful fan immediately.

When I heard Eccleston was being replaced, I was concerned. He'd defined the role for me. But I grew to like David Tennant...then love him. And he became my favorite. (Sorry, Chris!). It broke my heart when he left.

I like Smith alright. He's just different, and not bad-different, but I still love DT the most.

And during the DT years, I began renting some of the original episodes from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Now that I'm older and have had the experience of watching this newer incarnation, I now have an appreciation for those older episodes that I didn't before. I confess I missed out on some really good stories back then, even if the special effects weren't so "special". 8)

OMG! This is HILARIOUS! I LOVE Matt Smith!

Matt Smith's performance as the 11th Doctor, Doctor Who Prom 2010, Royal Albert Hall

I missed this on io9 but found it on YouTube. A celebration of all things DW. This is only one part of the whole thing, but this is funny!

On this day, 11/23/1963, the very first episode of Doctor Who aired on the BBC (with the First Doctor William Hartnell).

Happy 47th anniversary, DW! Allons-y!

I honestly don't remember which Doctor I saw first, though Peter Davidson has always been a favorite of mine (I was never all that enamored of either of the Bakers, to be perfectly honest). I can tell you that my favorite companions were (and are) Jamie McCrimmon, Turlough, and Ace from the original series. And River Song's probably my favorite--even if she's not an official companion, at least not yet--in the modern series, though I also like Rory.

I can remember buying every single one of the old episode novelizations I could find when I was in college, and at one point I had over a hundred of them (though I think I was still missing some), and it was a good way of finding out what happened in the episodes that are now missing which I never had a chance to see (though a couple of them have since been found and shown).

I really wasn't too sure about the 11th Doctor when he took over--quite frankly, he looked far too young for the role (even if the Doctor can regenerate to any age), but he definitely grew on me as the season progressed. I think the end of the first part of the Weeping Angels episodes was when I first really started to like his Doctor and I felt that they did indeed make a good choice in casting him.

For those interested, there's some spoilers concerning the 6th season over at io9, in this article-- Tron Legacy director takes you inside the movies plus are some classic monsters returning to Doctor Who -- the DW bits are almost at the end of the article. Some should be taken with a grain of salt, of course, but I'd love it if the first two bits did turn out to be true...

Just read the article...yeah, those first two bits would be awesome! Thanks, JediKatie

I really like Jamie as the 2nd Doc's companion. (that kilt!) And after Davison, I couldn't really see a piece of celery the same way again.

River Song rocks and that's all I gotta say about that. [/b]

I have to admit, this is one of the best DW fan videos I've seen in a while:

The Four Doctors (5,9,10,11)

It's set to music from the movie "Inception".

And I think this would've made a better special than the original "The Four Doctors" :P
