I was in Chapters/Indigo the other day and saw the book. I picked it up and flipped through it. I suspect that if you liked the reboot series you'll like this book, too.

I'm afraid I'm probably in the minority but I haven't read the reboot series because from what I've heard, I'm not crazy about how Trip's death was "fixed". I know the writer had to work within Paramount/publisher's rules but I just don't care for the idea. I guess in some ways I'm as conservative as a hard-line fan; I want my crew together!

Possible Spoiler Ahead...

*Possible Spoiler*

In this book Trip is still(?) working for Section 31. And he seems to have embraced the philosophy of this organization whole-heartedly. See, this is where I have real problems. I just can't see fine, upstanding Trip corrupted to this point. And make no mistake, spy work corrupts people. They end up having to do things that they wouldn't normally do or want to do.

As I said, I haven't read the series so I don't know if he was coerced into taking the position or not.

And how would I fix the Abomination (TATV)?

Well, there are several ways: (I wrote a script that involved time travel).

But the easiest is to say that it was a hologram programmed by Troi using inaccurate information. After all, the characters spout wrong info throughout it (Hoshi's remarks about Trip not attending college and being almost incomprehensible, Trip calling Archer "Boss", etc. etc.)

I'm interested in the Tudor era of history, and that history is being constantly revised as new information becomes available or is re-evaluated. This includes people's birth dates, what they said, etc., etc., etc. So it's not improbable that information would become lost or garbled, especially during the Romulan War.

If Enterprise gets the Netflix reboot, I hope that's how it's handled.

(Of course, the real truth is that Bermaga made a lousy, stupid decision ... :x )

Finally got this book. It was one of my Christmas books, and I've put off reading it until I can savor it. Considering i'm stuck at home in a snow storm right now, it's a good time to start. I've only read about 25 pages. The beginning, I'll admit, almost put me off.

SPOILER ALERT

Not the Tandarans, I thought, who are among my least favorite species in the series. And not the Suliban again. But the last few pages have thrown in some interesting twists I wasn't expecting. Perhaps the Tandaran incident was just a way to begin the tale. We'll see.

Only one real criticism so far... the back cover indicated the Reed is a captain of his own ship. As the book begins, he's a commander and is T'Pol's first officer. Very soon, he's promoted and gets his own ship. Kind of ruined that surprise by having it on the back of the book. :(
Old enough to know better, but that's never stopped me before.

Gotta say I am in agreement with this. I've been toying with the idea of buying the Romulan War books where it develops this "fix" but it didn't seems right to me. But I guess any fix is better than none <sniff>

IIRC, coz I only watched TATV once and that was not long after it first aired, but weren't they all pretty much the same rank as well? That would also lend credence to it being actually a poorly programmed holonovel. A bit like "The Tudors" taking rather a lot of liberty with Tudor history - like merging Henry VIII's two sisters in to one character

These books do sound really good though, so I am still mulling over getting them, and this latest one.
What I wouldn't give to have an Episode of Enterprise where Trip somehow manages to loses his uniform and gets covered in Nutella.

Aeryn: And you say you want to go back to that place of pain and suffering!
John: Well you guys don't have chocolate!

All the best TATV fixes I've read have it framed as a badly written holonovel, so that's my canon. I wanted to read this new ENT book for the Malcolm storyline, but now I know more about Trip's involvement I think I'll skip it. Alas.

I do have a copy of Beneath the Raptor's Wing somewhere that I know I'm never going to read for the same reason, I'd be glad to post it along to someone who might enjoy it!
