The possibility of a power like yarn manipulation reminds me of the show Misfits, a British sci-fi show about a group of teens doing community service who get superpowers in a freak storm. At one point, this kid, Brian, steps forward to the media that he has a power, but it's only lactokinesis - the ability to control milk and milk products - and as he meets other superpowered people, they all think it's pretty lame and the media starts to overlook him for the cooler powers, so he becomes a killer. He actually almost bests our "heroes", drowning or suffocating them with things they'd had to eat or drink, and even winding mozzarella from a pizza around the cerebral cortex of the immortal one, leaving him brain-damaged. It's only thanks to the one that can time travel that he's thwarted. So even the most useless sounding power can become deadly, if used imaginatively. I read a manga once about a character who got stuck with growing trees as his superpower, but he really mastered using it tactically.
But, on topic, I apparently have a
Monster Soul. It's not very specific, so I'm going to just pick one. I'd probably be something werewolfesque like the Michigan Dogman / Beast of Bray Road. I would probably just go off into the wilds to live like the animal I am, and show up once in a while on quiet country roads to spook passersby so their account can get published in a book by Linda Godfrey. I'd also go in search of other cryptids to see if they were Monster Soul people too.
Or perhaps I have multiple monstrous souls? One would be some type of giant hideous Lovecraftian abomination. One would be the aforementioned canine creature. I think another would be some kind of monster tiger, because they're awesome. If you needed me to save the world, you'd have to talk me into it with the promise of kitty or doggy treats... or the howling souls of a thousand doomed sinners screaming forever in hell. Depending on which soul was in play, you understand.
"Is that really how you see me? The eternal pessimist? The grim reaper? I don't want to die, what makes you think I want to die?"
