Can we pin this somewhere so it's easy to find? There's great information here, and not just for people with kids. I understand this is crass , but we know that Malcolm has a "thing" about water, and people like to write stories about how that came about or they like to write stories where he nearly drowns. This article gives good information for those writers, too.

Good advice here. My mother almost drowned as a youngster, so she made sure we all could swim and took water safety/ rescue classes as well.

Closest I came to using it was when my niece got too deep in a pool. The description above is spot on. Luckily, I was very near her, and got her to safey quickly when her mother, my sister saw what was happening. Complete silence after hearing giggling....it was eerie. Never let down your guard when swimming with children, it happened fast.
