IE9 and the Archive

Postby Aquarius » Mon Aug 22, 2011 11:17 am

TO REITERATE:

IE9, like just about all things Microsoft, is a crunked up piece of crap. That said, there is an incompatibility issue between it and our archive.

No, we're not coders who can just figure out how to fix it.

No, there hasn't been a software update from the eFiction developers to reconcile it.

Yes, we promise to keep you apprised of any developments in this situation.

Yes, we're sorry for the inconvenience, and we'd surely fix it if we knew how.

Please be kind and refrain from venting your frustrations over the situation in your feedback to the authors. Doing so is not going to provide the magic key to unlocking the solution to the problem. It's just going to annoy me.

Thank you.

Did some checking.

If you're that married to Internet Explorer, you can download IE8 here. Which works and stuff. For free.

Also, this might be more of a skin issue than a software issue. You can try the CSSZen skin or the Blanc or Noir skins to see if they work.

It's tricky for us to test this, as we all have different browsers and platforms. I'm all mac all the time, so it's tricky for me to test this stuff.

Right. And while I have both FireFox and IE on my machine, I use FireFox for most things, and I kept IE8 because of all the complaints I saw about IE9, not wanting to have a useless backup browser.

Someone mentioned today that other types of sites have problems with newer browsers, including online financial aid forms. The advice the sites are giving: find an old browser.

I know it sucks, but I promise we really are working on it.

Remember folks, that "Jupiter Station" is a section here on the forum for a reason. If you encounter something weird, problematic, and otherwise a technical snafu, post it here? I volunteer as technical adviser and sometime all-around geek for the Delphic Expanse; I'll see it right away if it's here as will the other admins and community members. I'm not the developer of either the forum or the archive software (or the upcoming gallery software) but I can certainly help track down a problem and either suggest a fix for it or at least provide you with an explanation. And I'm happy to do it!
