Thanks Reanok! I know about Gallery Books but I hadn't seen the speaker list before. That'll be useful.

Should we wait until the book comes out?
The connection that she and Trip had shared was no mere casual dalliance. It was identical to the link that united two of her oldest friends in the bonds of Syrrannite marriage. And that makes Charles Tucker my mate, she thought ... TRW:BTRW

What would be the advantage of waiting?

I'm sort of not clear about where things are at right now. Do we have a definitive reason we can work with yet, as to why there are so few books and about to be even fewer? We kind of need to know why that is, and some of this thread has been a little confusing to me. (Sorry.)

We need to know what we're up against, then we need a plan.

Summary: Middleman and I have taken up the challenge. We PMed each other for a bit and we're researching, asking questions and compiling info right now in order to get a clearer picture of the situation and then create a plan.

Just wondering if there have been any new developments in the plotting and scheming to save our novels?

To be honest, no.

I've got a smattering of some more hearsay information, a pile of worried conjecture, rumor and flat-out conspiracy theories from fans and a few comments we already know about from the existing active ENT novel authors. But I've got nothing that says anything one way or another on the important questions: Will there be more ENT novels? How many will there be per year? What's the health of the publisher for the Star Trek novels? Who's making the decisions on what lines will be published (the publisher or Paramount)?

If anyone wants to start organizing to write some letters, I say we go for it. But I would warn against any accusations that they're getting rid of the novels - we don't know that for sure. (The economy sucks for everyone and a scale-back of what's getting published could just be a tactic on the part of the publisher to stay alive in a situation that has not been good for bookstores and publishers.) I would suggest we just make our presence and preference enthusiastically known - as we've been doing lately in every other area - and ask for more books from ENT. Make the case that, since we didn't get enough of the show or any movies, we want MOAR BOOKS.

As an aside, I do know a little bit more of the situation with e-books. It's complicated. And of course it involves Amazon.com business practices going up against existing revenue models with bookstores, publishers and authors. Things are also changing rapidly, so this area is something that's it's hard to keep a finger on. The news from May of 2011 no longer applies - everything's different as of the last things I read in September!

Okay. I'm a little confused, because I thought that's what you and Middleman were volunteering to do, but you guys were doing a little fact-finding first.
