Malcolm & Talas

Okay, this has been driving me absolutely up the wall. Please somebody tell me there is some of this out there?

In Proving Ground they had such amazing chemistry, even though Talas had ulterior motives, and the conversation they share about their military families is one of my favourite exchanges from the entire series. It seems she got thrown together with Shran (not that it didn't work too, because I could see it) just for something to do with her, and then she died, which is a miserable waste.

I stare at my icon day after day on this place and think of that little spark and I want more. I know the logical solution is to write some, and I probably will, but I want to know I'm not the only one. Out there in this great wide internet, has someone done it before?

Mr. Smith maybe you could write a Malcolm and Talas story I thought there was an interesting dynamic witht hese two characters in proving ground.

Like I said, I probably will embark upon this adventure (when I've caught up with all those awesome prompts you keep giving us, Aquarius), but I want to know if anyone has committed this dynamic to fanfic already, even in some small obscure way.

Off the top of my head, I don't know of any fics with Malcolm and Talas. I wonder why not? You're right, Mr Smith, there was a chemistry between them, both being from military families and so on and their areas of expertise. I can even see Malcolm getting serious about it, but Talas viewing it more of a fling or something to pass the time because of her attitude. Something she said in the armory about the Enterprise weapons made her nostalgic or something like that? She acts very superior and condescending, but then, Malcolm might see that as a challenge.

I played with the whole Malcolm and Talas attraction in A Mirror Cracked, but it's not a romance since MU Reed is a sociopath in that story. But I was inspired by the fact that in the RU, they appear very attracted to one another. So, in the MU, she is attracted to him, but it works out badly.

And Kathy Rose, I like your interpretation of what it might be like if they were romantically involved. I love the idea of tying it into the way she sees their technology, kind of quaint and old fashioned. The nostalgia could play a part if she decided to experiment with humans and human sexuality. I might have to play around with this some time.

Enjoy the ride, Mr. Smith. The Talas plotline is a minor part of it, but I think it added a nice layer to the story. When I was writing it, I thought it was sad because the RU Malcolm would have been thrilled to have her attention the way that the MU version does, and it might have worked out.

But I've always been kind of obsessed with Andoria and Andorians as the opposite of Vulcans, and I also played around with that in the story. Ice versus desert. Emotion versus logic. Now that I think about it, a Talas/Malcolm romance could really provide a compliment to a TnT romance. Two guy friends fall in love with women who are literal opposites. Malcolm, the emotionally distant human, falls for the hyper emotional Andorian; Trip, the emotive human, falls for the Vulcan. Possibilities, that's all I'm saying.

Now that I think about it, a Talas/Malcolm romance could really provide a compliment to a TnT romance. Two guy friends fall in love with women who are literal opposites. Malcolm, the emotionally distant human, falls for the hyper emotional Andorian; Trip, the emotive human, falls for the Vulcan. Possibilities, that's all I'm saying.

Oh, I really like this way of looking at it. There needs to be double-date fic. Seriously.
