Why ship Malcolm and Hoshi?

If you ship these two, why?

I'm just curious to hear what other R/S (or M/H) shippers think.

Discuss! :-D

R/S is a unique ship for me, because apart from a couple of exploratory scenes, it's not really there in canon. However, it's like having two friends you know would click and you don't see why they don't get together. Reading fics about them won me over, fics by you and Kathy Rose especially have won me over.

Reed has such bad luck with women in the show. I mean, Trip, Archer, Phlox and Travis all do better with women than he does. And there's Hoshi, just sitting on the bridge being brilliant. It's like, open your eyes Malcolm! I always thought he looked a little disappointed in E2 that he didn't get to hook up with Hoshi.

After reading reading this thread, I wove a little hint of R/S into my history fic with that thought. Malcolm, it's time to open your eyes.

Yeah, and I wonder why Hoshi didn't want to look up who the father of her children were. ;)

I actually read a fic one time that postulates that Malcolm lied about his marital status to Hoshi and Travis. His reasoning was that he didn't want to unduly influence Hoshi's feelings for him...just because they got together in the E2 universe doesn't necessarily mean they'll get together in this one. But he was definitely hoping it would come naturally.

I like the chemistry. There is a cute deleted scene in the DVDs that has Malcolm teasing Hoshi (I haven't seen it in a long time but I think it was over one of her many phobias). It was cute.

Also:
Silent Enemy: When Hoshi is trying to pry his favorite food out of him in the mess hall and he thinks she's asking him on a date...

In one of the episodes (post-Fight or Flight I believe, because Archer told Malcolm to train her), Malcolm gives Hoshi some training on handling the ship's hand weapons and rifles. Later, I think it was in Marauders, she gives the miners a demonstration on how to shoot. Malcolm looks so proud.

I fell into R/S because that was my first experience in fanfic as a writer. I was lucky to find several supportive people in fandom who mentored me. Most of all,I think, there's just something that seems to click for me when I ship those two.

That's not to say that I don't appreciate other ships. Far from it. But I was very grounded in canon, especially coming from a news writing background -- just the facts, ya know? I think R/S was the easiest for me to ship because, as a couple, they don't seem to have as many perceived obstacles that other pairings might when it comes to canon. As I learned, however, we can make up all the obstacles we want when we write them. :)

Part of me wants to believe that the scene you mentioned, JiNX-01, was cut because TPTB didn't want to get two crew members involved right off the bat. A shame really. Another part of me believes it was because T'Pol's hair style was different than what was finally decided (if you look at her in the background of the DVD clip, her hair appears longer). But as we all know, it's probably because the episode ran long, so not being relevant or even important to the plot, it got cut.

I kind of fell in love with R/S after I read 'Little Cotton Socks' by Exploded Pen (on W5C and ff.net). Before then, I was more a Travis/Hoshi gal (I still like it, though).

I :hearteyes that story. And Exploded Pen is another R/S shipper.

Someone once remarked to me that a lot of the R/S was unsaid, more with body language, gestures, glances, stuff like that. But unless you were looking for that, you really didn't see it in the series.

I like the Red Sato relationship I liked the scences in Silent Enemy where there was the misunderstanding Hosi and Malcolm in the messhall trying to find out what he likes to eat. Also when Malcolm shows concern for Hoshi when she was kidnapped by the xindi and wants to help rescue her.

I need a little help, folks. I want to ship these two because there's so much delicious fan fic out there -- in fact, I even made a little bitty subtextual contribution of my own last night. But I'm having a hard time finding the canonical subtexts.

There are plenty showing Malcolm's side of things -- his pride in "Marauders," his concern toward the end of Season 3, etc. But where can I see Hoshi's side of things? No matter how hard I look, I can't find the moments where we could think that it might be just a little bit more for her as well. I can see how attraction is potentially in character; I'm asking about where I can see that it's actually there. Looking for something to build on.

This is not a "bash the ship" post. I promise. It's a "can someone help me see the possibilities?" request. Where do we see Hoshi's attraction to Malcolm?
Bridge looks a lot different from here. Think anyone would mind if I fired a torpedo? -Travis Mayweather, "Cold Front"

Her smug demeanor in that same Marauders scene, perhaps, when she asks permission to show how to use the gun?

I always thought she protested a little too much, too, in the scene where she's trying to find out Malcolm's favorite food for his birthday, and he misinterpreted her intention. And the lengths she goes to in order to find out his favorite food. I know Jon told her to find out, but she went to extraordinary lengths to do it: his parents, his best friend from training, his sister... Some people might have given up. Of course, that's my own interpretation. :)
