I did like seeing them on the bridge, in the corridors, saying 'HI' to the regulars, working in the various areas of the ship and visiting the the mess hall for dinners or movies. Two of my favorites were a tall dark haired man usually at Reed's post when he was gone, and a red haired woman in engineering or the back of the bridge.

I love the regular background characters, and there were quite a few that we see over all four years. And a few we hear about (and one or two we actually hear from with a line or two).

Tanner, Rostov, Zabel, Billy... here's a list! See if you can find them!

Everyone has made some wonderful observations! Good stuff!

So, my own two pence worth...

First I'll start with...

Once again I was impressed by T'Pol's strict adherence to Vulcanism (is that even a word?), even as she comes off as abrasive and being a know-it-all. She serves as a good foil for Archer. Just about every time she argues for something, it pushes him the other way. It also serves to emphasize that Archer isn't going to give up his humanity/compassion, even if leaving the alien ship and fleeing the area might be the safe thing to do in this situation.

I couldn’t have said this better myself!

When I first watched this episode I didn’t get much out of it, though I always enjoyed Archer’s exit from the dinner scene – two thumbs up! But the more I do watch it the more I like (still, it’s not one of my favorite episodes).

I liked the nuances: Archer’s quick look at Trip for support, Malcolm’s almost childlike joy with his weapons. Doctor Phlox was a riot! Trip’s brotherly concern and advice for Hoshi and the natural way they related to each other (I especially enjoyed the opening scene in sickbay). Oh, there was one other scene with T’Pol where she gave a look, and I’m like WOW! (or maybe that was another episode that I watched yesterday!?!)

There was also the dinner conversation. Trip’s look, one of, as someone put it in chat yesterday, ‘He doesn’t like it when mom and dad fight’, got me thinking. Could there have been something more to it!

Could Trip’s reaction be because he knows Archer so well that he’s just waiting for the big blow up, and he knows it’s not going to be pretty? Or, could it be that he’s never seen Archer so riled and is a bit perturb by it all? But then, you have a similar scene in Breaking the Ice where he’s looking a bit nervous as well. Hmmm??? Why? Could it also be that Trip doesn’t like confrontation? Interesting premise for me!

Another other thing that got me thinking was the relationship between Archer and Hoshi. I got the feeling in BB that they had known each other for quite some time, but in FF it doesn’t come across that way.

Anyways, overall, FF is not one of my favorites, but I still get enjoyment from it.

I had noticed that but forgot to mention it in my favorite moments list. I loved the slightly disproving look it earns from Malcolm, especially knowing that Malcolm later does the same thing, as you point out, the start of the next season. :)

I have a feeling this rewatch effort is going to inspire a bunch of fics from this group - everything from "missing scenes" to "fix it" stories to "ooh, they never addressed THAT".

That was me! :cheering Trip has no problem confronting T'Pol in Broken Bow, but she's the "enemy" there. Now, they are all supposed to be on the same team, as in surrogate family.

Also, though, I 100% agree, it's possible Trip's never seen Jon this upset about anything. (Psssst, Trip, get used to it. He's going to get upset. A lot. )

I so want to write a missing scene of that dinner conversation once Jon left.

Well he does tell T'Les (I think it was T'Les) that he'd never enjoyed arguing with anyone before T'Pol. Maybe you're on to something...

I kind of agree. They were so friendly with each other in BB, but in this episode Archer seems so distant. I know he has a more informal command style than Malcolm would like, but maybe he decided that he'd better take a more professional approach with Hoshi. I really got the feeling that Hoshi wanted him to say something more than he did to her in FF. Maybe I'm becoming a Hoshi/Archer shipper, but I really think Hoshi expected more warmth and familiarity than she was getting from him, and if she expected more, then it stands to reason in my mind that there might have been "something" there in the past between them.

Bumping this post up!

I've been watching ENT episodes randomly (a little 3rd season here, 2nd season there..) lately, and this one was a great one for comparison of how the captain and crew changed and individual characters grew and matured over the seasons.

I'm really more than a little disappointed I hadn't discovered (or rediscovered) Enterprise in time to take part in the whole re-watch project.

Reading through the discussion here, I see a lot of stuff that I would love to discuss. The one thing that jumps out at me though, is that I get a very different vibe from the dinner scene in the Captain's Mess than everyone else did. It seemed to me that Trip was really more taking T'Pol's side on the entire issue. When Archer directly confronts Trip about what he thinks they should have done, Trips basically says the original decision to leave was the right thing to do because of the threat to their own ship and crew if the aliens who did it came back. And at the end, Trip's look seems almost apologetic towards T'Pol for the way Archer acted. I kind of saw it as setting up the dynamic that Trip's not always going to just blindly follow Archer, especially when T'Pol has a good argument on her side.

Just my take.

Oh cool! I'm gonna have to rewatch that scene now with this in mind.

As for the re-watch project, not only have we done it a few more times, we never quite finished it! I'd be happy to organize another one if there's interest. We can even start off where the original re-watch left off.
