Good shows that shouldn't have been canceled

SyFy's stupid cancellation of SGU made me think of all the shows I love that were canceled and shouldn't have been.

Hex, I miss you.

Let's see. The list is long. I actually did an article on this once, for US Airways Magazine.

Wonderfalls
Freaks & Geeks
Carnivale
Deadwood
Farscape
Firefly
Angel

Stargate: Atlantis, Dark Angel and Firefly are the main thorns in my side, of course along with our beloved Enterprise.

The cancellation of Farscape broke my heart, too, but I'm glad they had the chance to wrap it up in The Peacekeeper Wars, which softened the blow considerably.

Enterprise & Firefly top my list.

I'm cranky they canceled "Flashforward" before explaining the mystery (at least I assume it's canceled because it didn't come back this season).

I am still very, very bitter about Firefly's cancellation.

I also think Deadwood was canceled too soon. The first two seasons were excellent. The third was pretty disappointing, and the last episode was terrible, but I think they could have put it back on track for a fourth season, if they'd had a chance.

Alien Nation, Threshold

Carnivale. When I read what was intended for the next season, I missed it even more!

I didn't resent the cancellation of Enterprise, Firefly, Dark Angel, and Moonlight until way after the fact, but then I REALLY resented it.

Farscape, I was angry with the cliffhanger of an ending, then Peacekeeper Wars aired and I like to remember it with the cliffhanger ending.

I wish it was common practice to give a show a season to wrap things up after cancellation. Oh, well.

I remember being absolutely heartbroken when

Now and Again

was axed. It was a really interesting sci fi premise with great writing.

Alien Nation and Farscape top my list (I figure Enterprise is pretty much a given for the people on this board).

I never really understood Fox's logic of canceling Alien Nation--it was doing well in the ratings, especially for a sci-fi show on an upstart network, and then it was gone... At least there was the five TV movies to continue the story, though they had to come up with an alternate explanation for the whole alien-AIDS storyline that they had been building up the whole season so it could be wrapped up in the first movie.

And Farscape's cancellation still pisses me off, despite Peacekeeper Wars. I was on the old Sci Fi Dominion board, at the hastily called chat, where Ben Browder, Ricky Manning and David Kemper broke the news of the cancellation to all of us (and believe me, there were 500+ pissed off at Sci Fi fans in that room, who were relaying what had been said to fans in the alternate chat rooms set up for those who couldn't get into the main one), because they wanted to let us know before Sci Fi's press release came out. And I was at the official Burbank con in 2003, where Ben and the rest of the cast strongly hinted that they would be working together "very soon" with a lot of the people in this room, so I was among the first fans to be told about Peacekeeper Wars coming out the following year...

But yeah, I've hated Sci Fi ever since they canceled the show literally the day before they finished shooting season 4. I wanted to see season 5, where D'Argo was going to be the King Arthur-like character for the Luxan people, as Anth told us at one of the cons I went to. Season 5 was going to be D'Argo's season, and having him die at the end of PK Wars, while moving, just isn't the same...
