Bad Finale, Good Finales

Okay, Enterprise takes the cake for worst finale in television history, imo. Mind blowingly ill-advised enough so that even friends of mine who have never seen an episode know what a travesty it was.

Other bad finales: Lost. BSG (the reboot).

Good finales: DS9. TNG.

I have mixed feelings about Angel (which was kind of epic) and Buffy - which was over the top.

M*A*S*H had a good finale.

As did That 70s Show.

Bad finale--Forever Knight. Somewhere in me there's a finale-fix fic where Nick gets Natalie out of that fire, and Nick didn't kill her.

I agree about M*A*S*H's finale, it's long been a favorite of mine. That episode was the first time I was ever allowed to stay up to 11 pm on a school night (I was in 7th grade at the time).

I also loved the finale for Newhart. Okay, so that's probably not on most people's list, but the final ending joke, where Bob wakes up in bed next to Suzanne Pleshette on the set of The Bob Newhart Show, and starts telling her about this crazy dream he had of owning an inn in Vermont was priceless...

The Fugitive had an excellent finale as well.

Didn't much care for Quantum Leap's finale, however. It just never seemed fair to me that Sam never got to go home again, and Al basically thought Sam had gone nuts, even if Sam was continuing to put things right after the show ended.

Oooooooooooooh! Newhart! Yes, that was quite a good finale, too. And I loved the show. Larry, Daryl, and Daryl were just awesome. :rolf

Oh, I think the ending of Newhart is one of the greatest endings of all time.

I liked the ending of Cheers, where Sam locks up for the night and life will go on.

The ending of Friends, when they all kind of move on with their married lives (except for Joey) was good - and appropriate for that show.

I didn't watch St. Elsewhere, but that had a love-it or hate-it "it was all a dream" ending, too.

I was disappointed in the end of Seinfeld, though.

I was actually disappointed with the Buffy finale. The whole thing about leaving Buffy's true feelings about Spike with a question mark thanks to his statement before he died. And I always saw Buffy end with her fighting like River did in Serenity. Every time I see that scene, I think, "That should have been Buffy's fight."

And even though I know in RL it would be best that way , I couldn't help but scream at the TV when Jackie ended up with Fez and not Hyde in That 70's Show.

The BSG ending was good and bad for me. I loved the sad ending with Adama and Roslin. It was expected and beautiful. And then there was Starbuck as an angel?!? :scratch :orly

I have to say that I loved the Roseanne ending. Where the surprise ending was that the show was her rewritten story of her life. Becky & David, Darlene and Mark, Jackie was gay and not her mother, Dan actually died... mind bendingly awesome ending. At least to me.

The end of Rome was pretty good too, I think. Titus Pullo walking into the crowd with his son... cute.

I actually liked the BSG ending. I also really liked the series, which is a bone of contention for many folks.

Six Feet Under knew how to do an ending.

And Life was extremely lucky... got cancelled but it wrapped up a story arc with an ep that actually gave some closure and hope to the fans. I was sorry to see it go but satisfied.

Another pretty lousy finale? X-files.

Loved the ending for the original The Fugitive. I have the VCR tape for it and have no problem watching it again and again. It was one of the highest rated shows at the time. The producers felt they were taking a real gamble with it. They were afraid that the show wouldn't sell in syndication because everyone would know how it turned out. That hasn't been a problem as far as I can tell. I'm working on getting all of the episodes on DVD. Good writing and good actors - what more could you want?
