A Workshop Idea for Artists...

Postby Misplaced » Wed Sep 29, 2010 7:02 pm

So, while I mainly use my creative skills for photoshopping and writing, I do draw as well, though I'm pretty out of practice.

I know we talked a little bit about the book, "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain"... I'm wondering if there is any interest in doing an online workshop here of sorts, since you all have inspired me to pick up the pencil again. (BTW, my preferred style of art is cartooning and comic book style -- but I figure learning to sketch real life will only further enhance my very rusty skills)

We could, in order to make it legal, even focus on Trek art for most of the exercises.

My copy is a first edition, given to me by an artist that my mother was dating when I was 7 or 8 years old. So, I have no idea of the author revamped the exercises since then or not.

But I have the book, and I can even announce and post a brief description of the exercises each week (we could do a chapter a week) and we could post our work in this thread.

So, whaddya say, fellow artists -- or even folk who want to learn to draw better? Any takers?

I'm going to take a look at the book in the local bookstore this weekend. I've heard of it, and could have sworn I rejected it for some reason during my art instruction book spree years ago but can't remember, if I did, why.

Go for it Misplaced! I have no artistic skills at all - but if you want me to set up a special forum - just let me know.

I have both editions of the book now (my son couldn't decide so he checked out both). I'm game for an online startrek art class :D

Thank you! Well it looks like we've got myself, bluetiger, ladyrainbow and crystalswolf on board.

When do you all want to start? Monday? Or is that too soon?

I think we can start anytime. It's the end date of the lesson that may be the problem. Perhaps whenever you start it to Wed or is the first lesson a more involved activity, that whenever to next weekend would be better?

I draw at night after the house settles down so any time frame is okay with me. Just let me know.

Alright ladies... Shall we start next Monday? For each assignment a week or two? What do you think?

Honeybee -- Is the special forum or thread still an offer?
