I suppose I should post this here, since I can't figure out where else to put it.
I'll probably post a few links in this thread, as I dig up special pieces of the past.
Treksoap was a LiveJournal-based slash RPG that was incredibly prolific from 2003 through 2006 or 2007-ish, and which continued to be populated with posts by a single author, Aeteananke, until she passed away this fall. While LJ doesn't make it easy to follow a storyline that spans years, TS is an amazing journey filled with talented writers and their Muses. I don't expect that many would invest the time in figuring out much of that universe, but I don't want it to disappear into oblivion, either. I'll probably at some point back up the community into a PDF file -- which, ironically, Aeteananke had done several years back. That is most likely lost to us now.
I joined TS within the first week of its existence, when it was just a place to goof off, with wacky interactions between the characters. Nobody was really IN character, much, because it was a SOAP. However, it soon took on a life of its own.
I learned to write slash in Treksoap -- actually, truth be told, that's where I found my slash goggles. I learned to write *smut* in Treksoap. Lots and lots of smut! I found my voice, I created original characters, I made so many friends. I laughed, I cried.
If you follow it from the beginning, you literally watch Archer and Reed fall in love. It was not set up that way at all. Archer was het, Reed was involved with Tucker. It just happened. There's mpreg, torture, comedy, angst, parties, madness, children... life. Boy meets boy, boy loses boy, boy gets boy back, boy loses boy again but not really but he thinks so, boy comes back for good. Maybe. It was a soap, after all.
Treksoap has its own MUniverse, where Mallos Reed is the sadistic Emperor, Tucker is Captain of the EX-01, and Archer is Reed's boytoy, er, kept man. Treksoap has crossovers like you wouldn't believe... not only within their own series/universe, but PIFing* into the NX's world. So much fun. (*a PIF was a Plot Implausibility Field)
Several years ago for Christmas, I put together a video honoring all the socks and sockers who built this world. It gives you an idea of just how many people were involved in TS, and the scope of their work. Some characters were one-offs, or just around for a short time. Others were there for the duration and were developed in-depth. I met many players in person, and I love them all.
I miss that time, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Sometimes magic just happens, and if you're lucky enough, you're there to witness it.
I was the luckiest woman in the world, methinks.
