Traits

This doesn't just apply to Trip and T'Pol but all the characters. If you could change one trait in each character, what would it be? it could be something that makes the character unlikable or weak. It could be a trait you personally don't care for in anyone. Or it could be something you think the writers added to make the character controversial or make them supposedly more appealing to the fans.

Hm.

I would start with Travis. He had a rich background that they built up in season one, and that they added to over time (a penchant for planetary extreme sports, his relationship with various family members, former girlfriend, etc.) but his optimism and genial nature just kind of blended into the background if he didn't have some interesting action to do.

I would have given him a problem - specifically a tendency towards risk-taking - that he hid from others with his optimism and genial nature. I.e. It'd be behind his abilities (being a great pilot, rocking climbing and perhaps some other extreme sports) but it'd also be something that would cause some major stumbles every once in a while before his friends realized the extent of his problem. It'd make him a great candidate for leadership - and Archer and the other officers could see the potential, but he'd have to learn to harness it over the course of the seasons. It would give him a more dramatic character growth arc, and also give him something that tied him in a more interesting way to his Mirror Universe self.
