From Quantum Leap to NCIS: New Orleans: Scott Bakula’s 5 best roles
At 61 years old American actor Scott Bakula has established himself as one of TV’s most talented leading men.

The actor has been in the business for an impressive 30 years and he made his debut in 1986 in TV’s Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Colour. Since then he’s gone on to appear in more TV shows and films than we have time to list, and currently he’s starring in NCIS spin-off NCIS: New Orleans as Dwayne Pride.

To celebrate the release of the show on DVD this Monday, we’ve taken a look back through Scott’s career and picked out his Top 5 TV roles. Keep reading to find out which ones made the cut…

5. Desperate Housewives (2012)


Scott guest-starred in multiple episodes during the show’s 8th and final season. He may have only had a small role but he made quite the impact. His character Trip Weston was introduced as Bree’s (Marcia Cross) lawyer when she was accused of murder. The two characters eventually married with Trip and Bree moving away from Wisteria Lane in the series finale. Scott had great chemistry with Marcia and he was a real asset to the final season.

4. Looking (2014 – present)


HBO series Looking showed a different side to Scott’s talents. Exploring the relationships between gay men in San Francisco, the Looking gave Scott one of his most dramatic roles to date. In the show he played entrepreneur Lynn who became a friend and romantic interest for lead character Dom (Murray Bartlett). The two characters went from friends to lovers and in the show’s second season they hit a rough patch when Lynn didn’t want to be exclusive but Dom did. Looking was cancelled after its second season but the show is getting a TV movie to finish the storylines of all the characters so we’re hoping Scott is back.

3. Star Trek: Enterprise (2001 – 2005)


Scott landed the lead in one of the many Star Trek TV series as Captain Jonathan Archer. His character was the captain of Earth’s first Warp 5 starship, known as Enterprise, and the ship featured an engine designed by his father giving Archer a personal connection to it. The show began in 2151, 115 years before the original Star Trek series, and ended in 2161 with the formation of the United Federation of Planets. The series was as thrilling and spectacular as you would expect from the Star Trek franchise but sadly it was cancelled at the end of its fourth season.

2. NCIS: New Orleans (2014 – present)

Scott’s current role, and one that is proving to be a huge success for him, is the role of NCIS agent Dwayne Pride in NCIS: New Orleans. The procedural is a spin-off from the ever-popular NCIS and each week sees Dwayne and his time solve a different crime in the city of New Orleans. The show is currently in the midst of its second season and has been a ratings juggernaut in the US.

1. Quantum Leap (1989 – 1993)

Dr. Sam Beckett is arguably the character Scott is best-known for playing. It was certainly the role that brought him international fame and Quantum Leap still has a very loyal fanbase to this day. The sci-fi series ran for 97 episodes over 5 seasons and told the story of a physicist who leaps through spacetime following an experiment in time travel. Each week Sam leapt into the body of a different character and as he lived out their lives, he hoped that his next jump would take him home.
