I have one. Since I'm the oldest among my friends, when I turned 30, 3 out of the 4 of us had the same image tattooed in the same spot. They told me it was suppose to be about 5"... it's half my back.

Darn it, hit the submit button too soon. Had a thought, perhaps tattoos aren't such a big deal in the future because they probably have easier ways to remove them.

Okay, I was thinking this the instant I first read this thread and I'm glad you managed to put it into words better than I probably could. I've also just had the most amazing R-rated image of Malcolm naked, receiving a traditional hand-tapped tattoo slipping across his hip and down towards his crotch by a possible loved one, that simply must be translated into fic, so do excuse me. :faint

It seems this thread is just teeming with potential plotbunnies waiting to happen.

Ah, me too. What have you got? I'm a big fan of body modification. Unfortunately due to certain circumstances involving future surgery, I won't be able to get the bigger pieces and sleeves I've been planning for a few years yet, so for the moment I have four small ones in discreet locations. One just inside each elbow and one behind each ear.

We should have a social space thread about this sort of thing. :D

We probably do need a separate thread for tatoos.

As for me, I don't have any and have never wanted any. Something to do with a fear of needles, most likely. (I don't even have pierced ears!)

Daughter, on the hand, has had her ears pierced a couple of times, but now wants a tatoo. I told her she had to wait until she's 18 (next year) when she doesn't need parental permission. That's because I can see her getting a tatoo now with my permission and a few years down the road deciding it was a bad idea. Then all of a sudden it would be my fault that she has that tatoo.
Old enough to know better, but that's never stopped me before.

Nothing permanent, though I've considered it. Many, many, times I've done temporary ones (both the water transferred ink and henna based) and at least one of them fairly large and obvious.

To impress T'Pol he gets a tattoo in Vulcan letters which the inker says reads "Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations" or somesuch. He shows it to T'Pol who asks: "Why have you written 'I am a Human rear orifice' on your body?" :orly

As soon as I saw this question this was my exact thought! I could see him just having the word 'Elizabeth' inscribed on his shoulder...

I actually thought about that as a possible sequel...T'Pol gets him home, peels him down to his Starfleet Blues, and is all "What in Surak's name is THAT???" :damnfunny

See now, you have to write it.

I can see Trip getting one tatoo... but not really more than that. Something significant to him, though. I think I could believe him getting something to represent his sister and/or baby Elizabeth... Now that I consider it, I believe he'd get something sweet to represent both of his Elizabeths that he lost.

The "Now you have to write it" works both ways, you know.

I've always thought he probably has one, somewhere, that he got when he was younger and more reckless - maybe during Starfleet training. I think he'd get it somewhere his mama wouldn't normally see it.

Now that he's older, I think he's less likely to get one, but I could see it happening under certain circumstances. For example, after the Romulan War, maybe some of the veterans get a similar tattoo. That reminds me - I think the MACOs probably all have tattoos with their shark logo.

I've had a small one on my left hip for several years. I probably won't get another, but I still really like my butterfly. It doesn't have any significance other than I think it's pretty - and my husband likes it, too!

Oh, and Aquarius, I totally think Trip would be awesome at karaoke, even if he didn't have that great of a voice, particularly after a few beers.

Brandyjane, I agree with you about Trip being awesome at karaoke. I could see him singing at the 602 Club, especially after a few beers.
