Anthony Montgomery, a man once tasked with the mission of furthering Starfleet’s ideals on TV, is now pursuing his own mission: seeking to improve child reading and writing comprehension all over the country, while sparking a love in reading for all.
The 43-year-old Los Angeles resident and graduate of Ball State University is a television and movie actor most widely known for his part as Ensign Travis Mayweather aboard the starship Enterprise NX-01 in the 2001-05 science fiction television series, “Star Trek: Enterprise.” A dozen years after entering the Star Trek universe, Montgomery became a published writer of a graphic novel, as well, with the debut of his creation, “Miles Away.”

In 2014, the graphic novel was nominated for two Glyph Comics Awards, which honor the best comics that are made by and about people of color. The book received nominations for best writer and for best male character.

Montgomery is also in pre-production on the first “Miles Away” animated film. In overseeing a “transmedia” franchise, Montgomery plans to stay on top of broadening “Miles Away” into multiple platforms. First are the graphic novels. Next will be the animated films. Then, in about three to four years, Montgomery hopes to do the first live-action movie on the character. He says 64 actors are already on board to do voice acting, including one actor from every “Star Trek” TV series. He adds that other well-known actors such as David Hasselhoff, Alan Tudyk, Lauren Tom, Tony Todd, and many more are planning to be a part of the productions.
