Spring 2014 Fic Challenge

This winter has been something else for those of us in the northern hemisphere. I can't remember when there's been so many winter weather related emergency closures where I live. Thankfully, it's now officially Spring! Let's cheer the season on and wave winter goodbye with a Springtime Fic Challenge.

There's no deadline for this one (though the sooner, the better!) and stories can be of any length, from dribbles to several chapters. Any genre, story style or pairing - het, slash, moresomes, or none at all - are welcome. In fact, there's only two rules:

1. At least half of the story must be set in, or somehow reference springtime.

It doesn't necessarily have to be springtime as we know it on Earth, but even in an alien landscape (Andoria, Quo'nos, Vulcan, etc.) the majority of the story must still somehow reference "spring", however you choose to define that on an alien planet. Alternatively, you can reference holidays, events, festivals or natural occurrences that are associated with springtime. (Again, alien equivalents should be obviously "spring".) Flashbacks to spring time on Earth, while other parts of the story are set in space or even another season, are fine.

2. It must include Porthos at some point. Because.


If you'd like a bit of an extra challenge, try including at least one of the following phrases:
- "This better not be what it looks like."
- "It's rusted right through."
- "I don't think those sparkling lights are fairy dust."
- "If you leave now, you lose everything."
- "What do you mean, he's escaped?"
- "I think the room is bugged."
- "Could you be happy here with me?"
- "He couldn't have died at a worse time."

This should be a lot of fun. I'm glad there isn't a deadline. I've got a beginning and an ending but the middle is still elusive.
