Got together with some Trekkie friends this weekend (we met at the Uni start Trek society). We had a great time, we've known each other for nearly 20 years - in fact the society was how I met my husband!
We have recently come to the conclusion that we are a bit embarrassing though - we've kinda lost touch with some people who have met partners outside the society (when it comes to relationships, the Society was/is pretty incestuous - including my husband I had 3 relationships with people in the society and snogged another three

) because their partners didn't want to socialise with us. In some of the cases (because the society member has confessed while in their cups!) it is because they are embarrassed due to our love of all things Star Trek. Me and another of the members are the black sheep due to our love for Enterprise, we say it's because they didn't give the series enough of a chance! Anyway I digress!
The thing is, it is ridiculous to define us by the fact we are Trekkies. Most of us have jobs, a couple of us (including myself) are SAHMs, we have other interests other than Star Trek. But apparently that is how some people view us.
Fortunately we are all way past caring what other people think I still think it is kind of funny and sad though!
Sorry this is just a bit of a ramble!
What I wouldn't give to have an Episode of Enterprise where Trip somehow manages to loses his uniform and gets covered in Nutella.
Aeryn: And you say you want to go back to that place of pain and suffering!
John: Well you guys don't have chocolate!
