Man of Steel and Superman

So, I haven't seen this yet, but I'd be interested in hearing feedback. I want to go, if I can drum up someone to go with me.

I was a big fan of the first two Supermans with Christopher Reeve, but then I was a huge fan of Henry Cavil on The Tudors, who stole that show as far as I'm concerned.

Hubs and I saw it last night.

It was a good reboot, I thought. They went much more in-depth into the inner workings of Krypton, which was interesting. The plot was good, and it kept my attention through the whole movie.

And Henry Cavil. Yum.
Malcolm: The radio! Or is it just the galaxy, giggling at us again?
Trip: It can giggle all it wants. But the galaxy's not gettin' any of our burbon!

I saw The Man of Steel and frankly, I loved it. I found it a very respectful portrayal of Superman.

Spoilers!!!!!! don't read if you haven't seen it.

The backstory of Krypton and their culture was fascinating to me. I liked that corruption and greed was the cause of their destruction. Russell Crowe was amazing as Jor-el.

I think Jonathan Kent nailed it. With the society that we have now, Superman would not be embraced and the government would in fact turn on him in a heart-beat.

I went in unsure how I felt about Amy Adams as Lois, but she and the writing won me over. This Lois was an integral part of the story. She saw why he was keeping a low profile and respected his wishes. Who knew Lois could place Clark above the story.

Kevin Costner and Diane Lane were wonderful.

Zod was a worthy enemy and the explanation of him being raised for a sole purpose gave a better understanding of his character. My only quibble...The fight scenes went on too long. However that is just a trend in current movies and not particular to this one.

As to the controversial ending, I was on board with it all the way. Sometimes a man of depth and passion has to make the hard decisions and it plainly showed us how this affected him.

I have a very soft spot for Superman. I did love the Christopher Reeve movie but there were a couple of moments that made me flinch when the character was treated in a slapstick manner. This was, I feel, a very respectful treatment of a character that I love.

And yes...Henry Clavil has a body to die for :hearteyes
