Favorite Trek Characters

So, across the Trek universe, major and minor, who are your favorite characters?

Voyager was never my favorite series, but I realized while checking out an episode on hulu that I actually love any episode centered around The Doctor. Not only did he have a great story arc, but he was played by a great actor. Also, I think Voyager was best at humorous episodes (when it was supposed to be dark like DS9) and the Doctor/Andy Dick Doctor episode has to be one of the funniest episodes of Trek.

Other favorite characters of mine: Spock. Data. (Popular choices for a reason). Ensign Ro. Ezri Dax (nice shakeup for the last season). Seven of 9. Q. Trip and T'Pol (of course).

Enterprise: Major: Archer (horrors! ), Trip, Malcolm, Hoshi, Phlox. Minor: Shran (well, maybe not 'minor' ), Forrest, Soval.

TOS: Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Scotty, Chekov.

TNG: Worf.

DS9: Major: Sisko, Bashir, O'Brien, Garak(?), Dax (Jadzia & Ezri), Odo, Worf, Quark. Minor: Joe Sisko, Rom, Moogie, Vic Fontaine.

VOY: The Doctor ('Message in a Bottle' is my favorite too), Seven, Tom.

As a kid I completely idolised Kirk, but I also really loved McCoy from the original series.

With TNG, the only character I ever identified with was Ro Laren and I still love her a whole lot, but I also have a soft spot for Data.

I always enjoyed The Doctor's episodes and moments most of all in Voyager, so he was definitely the biggest draw. Another favourite element of the show was Seven of Nine's friendship with Naomi Wildman, so I count them both among my favourites too, and though I was indifferent to the relationship between Paris and B'Elanna for a long time, I've recently grown quite fond of them.

In DS9, it was always Odo for me, but I also liked Gul Dukat, Kira Nerys and the friendship between Bashir and O'Brien.

No one has to guess that Malcolm does it for me when it comes to Enterprise, but he's also one of the most important fictional characters to me of all time. Other significant players are definitely Phlox, Shran, Hayes, Hoshi and Archer. I used to love Trip more than I do now, but he's still pretty special. My minor character favourites are Mestral, Gralik and Daniels.

So, my favorites?

ENT: Malcolm and Hoshi are at the top of my list, but I like all the others. And don't forget Porthos! And I do like Major Hayes, even if he was only in a handful of episodes.

TOS: Kirk, Spock, Uhura.

TNG: Picard, Guinan, and after Worf was developed more, I took a shine to him.

DS9: Captain Sisko, Kira Nerys, Jadzia Dax.

VOY: Captain Janeway, Chakotay, B'lanna.

As I re-watch the various series, I've realized that my favorites change slightly over the years.

TOS: Spock!!!

ST '09: Spock!!! x2, Uhura, Scotty

TNG: Data, Tasha Yar

DS9: Jadzia Dax, Worf, Odo, Kira, Weyoun

Voy: B'lanna (before marriage), Paris (before marriage), The Doctor

Ent: Trip, T'Pol, Shran

My tastes have changed over the years too.

TOS: I used to name Uhura because I identified so very strongly with the idea of a strong female character (I grew up in an area where girls weren't supposed to be smart or good at science/math). But as I've gotten older I've taken more of a shine to Bones because he's such a genuinely decent human being.

TNG: here there's another shift. It started with Troi (and I still like the character) but I'm more and more starting to lean toward Picard.

DS9: oh yes, Ezri. I actually liked her better than I liked Jadzia. While I was indifferent to Worf in TNG, I loved him in DS9.

VOY: Well, Janeway of course, but I also liked Tom Paris more and more as the series progressed. On rewatch I actually have started liking Seven quite a bit more as well, though there's a lot of missed opportunity there.

ENT: I can't think of any characters I don't like on ENT. Shran's a special favorite, though, and I loved seeing the Forrest/Soval friendship develop.
