Davinci's Demons

So, I watched the first episode of this Starz series, and I was happy to see Alexander Siddig aka Julian Bashir in a supporting role. The guy playing DaVinci is hot and has charisma, and the female lead is the woman who plays Irene Adler on Sherlock. I was taken aback at them portraying Leonardo as a straight womanizer since there's copious evidence he was gay. But the show is interesting. Anyone watch? I hear it's getting better.

During the last days of Spartacus, they pimped the show so much. Even if I were interested in the show before them, after being bombarded with the previews, I lost all interest. However, Hubs refuses to watch because of the shift portraying DaVinci as straight and a bad ass fighter. For him, DaVinci is sacred as a mental bad ass and thinks its a dishonor to change anything about him. Not even Alexander Siddig could get him to watch (Hubs is decidedly a DS9 fan to the end).

They are pimping the show incredibly on OnDemand as well! Some people on AVClub has said it has improved in the first few episodes, but yeah, fighting, straight DaVinci is about as realistic as medium-height, thin Henry VIII on The Tudors! I think it would be way interesting if they did a show like this, only made him actually gay and less of a fighter and more of a problem solver!

A lot of people on AV Club are irritated at DaVinci's straightness as well.

I would LOVE to see a show like that! What I can't figure out is why Starz would straight-wash DaVinci when they were so bold and daring with Torchwood (although not a fan of the shift in Capt Jack Harkness) and Spartacus.

Granted, I've only seen one episode, and DaVinci was in bed with a woman for the last few minutes and ogling a models boobs in the first scene, but there was that scene where he turned town the male model/hustler's offer but did cast an admiring eye at his body. It would be a good twist if DaVinic just liked examples of human beauty of any gender.

But unless I hear they are doing that, I don't think I'll watch more episodes.

I wouldn't mind that at all. However, in the previews they show him as the daredevil, swashbuckler type as well. If it didn't seem as much as well, I would definitely give it a try.
