Enterprise: Rise of the Federation coming July 2013

Hey, everyone. I thought news of a brand new ENT book might liven this place up a little bit. Over on the Trek BBS, popular Trek author Christopher L. Bennett has announced that he will be writing the next book in the ongoing ENT novel line, Rise of the Federation: A Choice of Futures.

In his announcement, Bennett brought up the following questions, which he seeks to answer in the book:

How did an alliance forged in wartime become the peaceful union we know? How did its founding members balance their differing views of what the Federation should become? What did they each contribute to the UFP government and Starfleet? How did that Starfleet end up being so similar to the United Earth Starfleet, and what familiar elements owe more to the Vulcans, Andorians, and Tellarites than we might have realized? What challenges did this fledgling union face in dealing with neighboring powers unsure of its intentions or threatened by its unity? What new enemies arose in the wake of the Romulans?

The news seems to have been met positively, and I for one am very happy to see the story of ENT continue. After the Romulan War duology had ended I was afraid that it meant the end of ENT novels for some time. Fortunately it seems that Pocket Books have decided to keep going.

I'm really interested to see where Bennett goes with this. I've always been interested in the early days of the Federation, how these four disparate peoples managed to put aside their differences and forge an alliance for the betterment of all, and how their union affected the rest of the species living nearby. Hopefully this will be good. Bennett's books are usually pretty solid, and he's really good at finding little bits of continuity and working them into the story organically, so I think it will be.

That's great news Skywalker! Thanks for sharing that. I've been so busy I haven't had time to rekindle the "Save the Trek Profic" efforts so this was news to me, but good to hear.

It's too bad the publishers still seem loathe to publish more straight up, during-the-series-type, episodic books that so many of us enjoyed reading for the other series. I'd really like to see more of the NX-01, her crew, our familiar heroes in some books. But a sequel bridging ENT and TOS is something that I'd love to read too. The lucky few authors who've gotten the chance to add something to the Star Trek book-canon with original stuff like this that fills the gaps, have all done great jobs with it. I'm looking forward to reading it!

I'm so excited about this news I'm glad the publishers changed their minds about publishing Enterprise novels.I liked Chris's mention of Character developement being important for the Enterprise characters.I definilely am glad to see books sales were good enought for another to come out next year.I can't wait to see what's happened to the Enterprise crew especially Trip&T'Pol story is continued in the next book.

Right now it's just the one book, but Bennett said that he hopes there will be more than one (hence the subtitle, A Choice of Futures).

:clap :cheering I read this book a few weeks ago Christopher Benett did a great job of using tie ins to Enterprise tv shows like Silent Enemy and Catwalk and other episodes from the different seasons. I really liked the Captain T'Pol and Malcolm Reed storylines in this book. Soval has a nice story arc in this book. I really like Captain Shumar.Trip is also in this book investigating the villians in this book Enterprise The Rise of the Federation.Tower of Babel book 2 comes out April 2014.
