The url is worth looking at just because of the huge pic at the top of Dominic in a cloak and with a wizard's staff. :)

It feels like I've been waiting forever for this, I know it's going to be so cheesy but DK + Green Power Ranger = Awesome in my book. That's a good picture too, I love me some grey.

Dominic is the best part, whether I'm biased or not.

Reposting from the news thread so y'all don't miss this. There be photos!

EntAllat wrote:Sorry gang! I'm just now catching up with Twitter news and I missed this while I was away:

Dominic Keating was in an episode of The Breakout Kings on March 18th! He was in "Double Down", playing a powerful and violent arms trafficker named "Bob Dixon". There's a quote from him on the show's site. And here's some photos: Photo 1 Photo 2 Photo 3 Photo 4 Photo 5

A couple more bits of Dominic Keating news:
* He was in New Orleans this January to film a new movie with the working title 'Programmed to Kill'. I don't have any other info on this.
* He's in a new TV pilot (listen to the podcast from The Sci Fi Guys - he talks about the gist of it). It's being shopped around to the networks now, so keep your fingers crossed for him!
* He's the voice of "The Templar" for the Blizzard video game Diablo III set to be released in North America and Europe on May 15, 2012. (He also talks quite about about how he got this part, and how he was told he could sound like Sean Bean.)

Can I ask for some advice/opinions on the convention thing please?

I've never been to one and I'm really tempted to go to the one in London in October, mainly of course to meet Dominic (with any luck!)

But on the other hand, a friend whose advice I value warned me that if I want to keep my illusions intact, I should give conventions a wide berth. She went to one and though she enjoyed the experience, afterwards she wished in some ways that she hadn't - because Dominic is not, apparently, one little bit like Malcolm!

I'd very much appreciate guidance on this from people who have gone in the past, because the photos certainly suggest he's a bit of a devil!

And talking of photos, thank you to everyone who posted some on this thread, I've been happily drooling over them all (though the dribble factor did decrease significantly over the ones where he has facial hair - NO! It doesn't suit him at all, IMHO!)

Any comments on my predicament much appreciated!

Well, as someone who's been to a lot of conventions and met a lot of the celebrities, I'll say this...

One should go with a healthy separation between reality and the show. Rarely are the actors like their characters, because they're, well, actors.

I met Dominic in Vegas in 2010 and I thought he was a riot. Funny, filthy mouth, and not a thing like his character. But I think it's wrong to expect him or any of the other actors to be, you know? Keep in mind, too, it's likely to make the actors themselves uncomfortable if you come expecting their character. That said, I thought he was nice in a wild-man kind of way, and I enjoyed the experience. I could certainly sit down and have a beer with him.

So, if you're legitimately interested in him for him, go and have a good time. If all you want to see is Malcolm, you may be better off with a DVD.

Well, that makes perfect sense, and thank you for your advice. I know I sound a bit daft, to put it mildly!

I didn't mean to give the impression that I'd expect the actors to be the characters. Obviously they're not. But I think you've confirmed that the gulf would probably be a bit too wide for me to be comfortable with. At risk of being written off as an uptight prissy Brit myself, people with 'funny, filthy mouths' are not really my cup of tea, so perhaps for everyone's comfort it might be as well to stick with my DVDs!

Keep in mind that there is a lot more to do at a convention than see celebrities and try to meet them. I've gone to cons and formed friendships that lasted a lifetime, and I've met up with people who I'd only previously known online. There's a lot to be said for running with people who are just like you for a whole weekend.

Unfortunately, many modern conventions pander to the starstruck because there's more money in that than selling the experience of meeting other regular people. Again, if you go in with the right expectations, there's no reason you can't have a great time.

Dominic is a hoot and a half and always gracious to his fans. I would probably stay away if you're prudish in any way, as his personality is very loud, but he is a genuinely great guy and born entertainer.

And like Aquarius says, there's more to do at conventions than meeting the actors. Hanging out with fellow fans is one of the main perks, but then again, I don't have any other Trek fans in real life who are as into it.

Just so you know, Eireann, you're not alone. I feel the same way (but I will cop a plea to being Prude Girl about a lot of things). :)

I wish I'd never seen or heard Charlton Heston raise the rife into the air and proclaim, "From my cold, dead hands." I've never felt the same way about him or his work since. It would be a shame if the same thing happened to you with Mr. Keating.
