Has anyone else here read these? Jon Snow's parentage is my new obsession.

Several years ago I read all the books that had so far been published in this series (I think it was up to the third book, but I honestly can't remember, it could have been the fourth, I suppose.) I recently decided to purchase the first book on my Nook and re-read it in anticipation of watching the TV show once it's out on DVD. I forgot how addicting good fantasy books are! I think my favorite characters are Danerys and Arya and I need to get on purchasing the second book to re-read.

We bought the DVDs the day they came out and watched them all within a couple of days. I thought they did a fabulous job of translating the book to screen. There are a few changes here and there that bugged me a little, but overall it's outstanding. I can't wait to watch the second season, but we don't have cable so I'll have to wait a long time for the DVDs. I read all five books that are out not too long ago, but I loved them so much that I'm planning a re-read this summer. I really can't recommend them enough. I gush about very few things, but ASOIAF is one of those things. I check out a ASOIAF board from time to time, but it doesn't really have a friendly community feel to it, so I don't spend a lot of time there. Weirdly, though I adore the books, it doesn't inspire me to want to write or even read fan fiction at all. I think it's because Martin does such an amazing job creating characters and building their world that I can't imagine reading what anyone else has to write about that world.
