Who here has IE 9?

Postby Aquarius » Sat Dec 17, 2011 11:51 pm

I had an idea about our IE 9 issue with not being able to leave reviews, but we need someone with IE 9 in order to be able to test it. Any volunteers?

I've got IE 8. According to hubby, IE 9 wouldn't work with Windows XP, which is what I usually use, and I haven't had any problems with that as far as posting reviews. I know that doesn't help with what you want. Sorry.
Old enough to know better, but that's never stopped me before.

I can probably test it, but it'd require a jaunt up to the university to use the machines there since I don't have it installed at home. Lemme know when you'd like to do it.

I don't know how well an emulator will work for testing this particular problem (since it's interaction and not just rendering that you're testing) but occasionally I'll use it to test web stuff. You might try it first: Web-based emulator for IE 9 It's not as good as testing with the real thing, but it's something.

I don't use it as a general rule (we are a Firefox household), but I do have IE 9 and I'm willing to help you bug test if you'd like. Just let me know what you need me to do. :)

OK, cool, Kylah. What I need you to do:

Go over to the archive and pick a story to review. Any story.

UNCHECK the "tiny mce" box and try to leave a review.

Tell me what happens.

Thanks.

I just posted a review for Chapter 3 of paulinem's Opacity.

When I unchecked the box, a closed html tag appeared in the text box. I cleared it, typed up my review and it went through without any problems. I just verified that it went through.

It went through better than one I posted in Pippin's Vulcan's Haircut earlier in Firefox. I just noticed that it never showed up.

Cool! Thanks so much for your help. I got the idea because when I try to do it from my phone, the Android browser doesn't like the review box either, but when I uncheck the tiny mce box it works fine. Knowing this, we might be able to fix it.

I appreciate your time!

No problem, happy to help any time. I'm an admin on a forum of my own, so I well understand the need for bug testing occasionally. :)

The tinyMCE thing is mostly handled by Javascript code, which is a tricky thing, since each browser handles it differently. IE has been known since the late 90ies to ignore de-facto standards for Javascript, so the most likely culprit is an incompatibility within the Javascript code that initializes the tinyMCE objects.
I'll whip up an IE9 on my machine and check whether the JS debugger can shed some light on the issue. :writer
