Documentaries

I'm a big fan of documentaries, so I thought I'd start a thread to discuss them.

Plus, we've got a lot of Texans on this site, and so, I thought I'd begin with this one, which I will see as soon as I have the chance:

I'm looking forward to this one this fall: Ken Burns: Prohibition. Every time they've shown the preview this week, the music during part of it gets me thinking of Cantina Band from Star Wars. Seriously, though, I've enjoyed everything he's done. WTTW just re-ran Baseball and is rerunning The Civil War this week. I've watched the latter countless times - I talked my family into getting me the VHS tapes as my only Christmas present one year because they were $100-$150 at the time - and it just never gets old.

It's not often you say something this grandiose, but every human being should see Werner Herzog's documentary The Cave of Forgotten Dreams.

He was given rare access inside the breathtaking Chauvet caves in France, which have the earliest cave paintings known. And they are stunning.

This might be an appropriate documentary; it's from the Smithsonian Channel but you can watch the whole thing online. Carrier At War: The USS Enterprise

I just watched Errol Morris's documentary Tabloid.

It's about a sensational case from the 1970s, The Manacled Mormon. The less spoilers you have the better, but it's awesome.

Y'all might be interested in Margaret Mitchell: American Rebel on American Masters on PBS next Monday.

The PBS website says they are also showing Harper Lee: Hey, Boo that evening as well, although I haven't seen it advertised on my PBS station.

You might want to check out the clip Is Gone With the Wind Literature?

Edited to add: Check out this clip for sure: Pat Conroy: My Mother and Gone With the Wind.
