Here is the draft of a letter that Tish and I came up with. I've kept it specific to Enterprise, since one of our concerns was that Enterprise wasn't getting the kind of commitment for profic that TNG was/is.

You don't have to use this exact letter, but I do recommend three things in whatever you compose and send:

1) Communicate your enthusiasm for Trek profic and for Enterprise specifically.
2) Keep it positive, but let them know you've noticed a trend that concerns you, be it lack of ENT novels or diminishing Trek line or both.
3) Make sure to state that you've bought the products before and will continue to do so.
4) Do NOT pit one Trek against the other. That's not going to help us. If you make it specific to Enterprise, do it via love for ENT not hate for another Trek.

SAMPLE LETTER

Dear [name here],

First of all, I’d like to thank you for the latest novel in the Star Trek: Enterprise relaunch series, The Romulan War: To Brave the Storm by Michael A. Martin. I’m one of many fans of the television series and eagerly look forward to every new book.

That being said, we loyal readers are aware that the Star Trek: Enterprise relaunch series was reduced recently. We don’t know the reasons behind this and are concerned that more Star Trek: Enterprise novels might not be forthcoming. I’m writing to express my continued support and enthusiasm for the entire line of Star Trek: Enterprise publications.

As I’m sure you’re aware, Star Trek has had a loyal and continually growing fan base for over 40 years now. With six television series, eleven films, hundreds of games, countless merchandise, and a continued presence in global popular culture, it is quite simply a media phenomenon. Few entertainment franchises, with the exception of possibly Disney, can claim such longevity or breadth.

Why Star Trek: Enterprise specifically? Out of all the television series, it holds the most unusual position. It was the last television series, cancelled after only four seasons due to low ratings. (Putting it in good company, since the original series that started it all was cancelled after only three seasons!) It’s also positioned before the reboot movie, and got a brief nod within the film.

In an ironic replay of what happened with the original series, more and more fans are discovering Star Trek: Enterprise many years after it aired. There is an emerging – and growing – fan base worldwide, as Star Trek: Enterprise is made available to new audiences in Europe, Asia and Australia. Star Trek: Enterprise fans are active and vocal on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. These new fans are taken by surprise when they discover the series was cancelled (many believe prematurely) after only four seasons.

Since the extension of this series is not currently available on screen, all that is left for loyal fans around the world are the Star Trek: Enterprise novels; the relaunch is our fifth season, sustained in print. We are grateful that the then-editor of Pocket Books took a chance with the direction of the novels and gave us back a beloved character, and that an exciting era of Star Trek is currently being explored. Star Trek: Enterprise is the only series where every fellow fan I know is fully aware of what new novel is coming out, when, and is willing to buy it. The novels are a significant part of Star Trek: Enterprise fandom and we eagerly await more.

We therefore respectfully request the continuance and expansion of the Star Trek: Enterprise series of novels. Re-launch, series-based, and Mirror Universe novels, comics, graphic novels, audio books: all would all be enthusiastically sought after. Give us more!

Thank you,
[your name here]

The letter looks great! I just have one question. I noticed toward the end you refer to the relaunch novels as our "fourth season." Do we maybe mean fifth, since we kind of have to take this as what happens after season four?

Or am I misunderstanding?

Thanks.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE:
Simon & Schuster Inc. is the parent company of them all.
http://www.simonandschuster.com

Pocket Books was an imprint/division of Simon & Schuster focusing on hardcover and trade paperbacks for the mass market and was responsible for the Star Trek line. They were merged in 2009 with Simon Spotlight Entertainment–into a single imprint called Gallery Books.

Gallery Books is an imprint/division of Simon & Schuster. THEY PUBLISH THE STAR TREK BOOKS AND RELAUNCH NOVELS.

Simon & Schuster Audio Books directors are responsible for the publishing and marketing of audio books for Simon & Schuster.

From Simon and Schuster's website:
"Louise Burke was named Executive Vice President and Publisher of Gallery Books in September 2009. In her position she has responsibility for a publishing unit that includes the hardcover and trade paperback lines of Gallery Books; Pocket Books, the mass market publishing arm of Simon & Schuster; and Threshold Editions, the company’s conservative publishing imprint; and the Downtown Press, MTV Books, Star Trek, and WWE lines. Ms. Burke joined the company as Executive Vice President and Publisher of Pocket Books in June 2001."

From the Media Bistro website,

"In a memo, CEO Carolyn Reidy explained the changes: “Gallery will be an immediate leader in those areas where Pocket Books and SSE have already forged well-earned reputations, such as women’s fiction, pop culture and entertainment. As with our other imprints, Gallery will also operate with a mandate to acquire top authors and hot prospects in a broad range of publishing categories, both fiction and nonfiction.”

With the changes, Pocket Books’ Louise Burke will now serve as publisher at Gallery. Anthony Ziccardi will be the imprint’s VP and deputy publisher, while Jen Bergstrom will serve as editor-in-chief. They intend to launch the new imprint in Spring 2010.

TWITTER FEEDS:

Let's be careful not to unnecessarily flood the company twitter feeds. If you tweet to them, have something to say. Don't just have a conversation with someone else and @reply the company or add the companies to every tweet you send out. That can gender ill will and dilute the message. Be thoughtful, be real and

You can tweet directly to the Simon & Schuster companies, or you can just tweet in general about the books and get others to do the, using the hashtag #startrekenterprise, and/or #startrekprofic

In fact, the latter might be more effective once the companies are made aware of the hashtags and can see ongoing conversation about the books without being flooded. Talk about the new novel!!! Use the hashtags when you do! (But be careful of spoilers for your fellow fans.) Let's show them that Enterprise fans use social media to talk about their books! Trust me, they're paying attention to that.

Alright folks. You've got a sample letter, addresses, Facebook pages, Twitter feeds and hashtags to use. Let's launch this tomorrow. Start tweeting then, start sending out those letters!

And would you all do me a favor? If you post about this somewhere else in another Trek forum, would you mention it here? If you send a letter, post to a Facebook page or do something that gets the word out, would you mention it here? I'd like to watch how well this spreads and see if we need to work up some energy or momentum.

Thanks!
