This production of The Tempest…oh, wait, this episode of Enterprise is executed well, though my understanding is it got flack from the get-go because DS9 did a similar premise. That isn't my main quibble with it. My main issue is that if you are going to do the Tempest and hire Rene Auberjonois - my the Prospero figure completely off-the-wall dangerous and powerful and devoted to his kid and willing to you know, call up a Tempest. It seems like a missed opportunity. And I remember when this aired, thinking Liana reminded me of Kes.

Even with shippers goggles aside, she's got a crush on Trip and he seems to like her - but not be as into her. Which is fine, as it's not supposed to be some great romance.

The best stuff is the creepy ghost ship stuff. Enterprise always did scary really well, and the holographic ghosts are legitimately menacing. The crew shows their competence and handles the crisis well.

And the beginning dinner scene? Awesome. Really, the episode could have been "Our Dinner with D'Marr" and taken place solely at in the captain's mess, and I would have been pleased as punch.

And with shippers goggles on, T'Pol is really pissed at Trip over his flirtation with Liana. Why is she so irked? Hmmm…

I am so glad I am not alone Honeybee, Liana totally reminded me of Kes as well. I am not so much a fan of Oasis, admittedly it is an episode that I tend to skip when it comes to watching episodes. I have watched the entire series a couple of times yet only seen this episode two times.

Oh, that would've been great! :D While I kind of like this episode, I tend to put it in the 'just okay' category (yes, I have different categories for episodes. Pathetic, huh? ).

I must admit, I thought Trip and Liana were rather cute. But that's just me.

I finally got around to re-watching it. This episode was a little better than I remember, though certainly not one of my favorites. I think the teaser was my favorite part. I like your "Our Dinner with D'Marr" idea, Honeybee!

Liana reminded me of Kess, too. I liked her. She had the potential to be really annoying, but the actress did a pretty good job of making her seem sweet and innocent but not too saccharine. One thing that stuck out to me about Liana is that for a girl with literally no experience with men, she seemed to have a pretty easy time flirting with Trip. While I don't think Trip was head-over-heals for her, he certainly enjoyed the attention. Heck, he even admitted as much right to her. It makes me a little sad for him, knowing that he's not going to have an "easy" relationship like that with T'Pol.

One little thing that I really liked was the little knowing smile Billy gives Trip when Trip asks him to continue with Liana's tour but promises to meet her for lunch.

Another thing I liked was how the writers reminded us about the Xyrillians a couple of times. It was a nice little clue that could lead an observant viewer to realize they were holograms before the big reveal.

T'Pol's reaction to Liana was just...weird. The shipper in me is going :cheering over what I can only see as jealousy, but the more logical part of says, "It's not logical for her to be jealous at this stage of their relationship." :vulcan The only thing that makes sense to me is that despite all odds, she'd actually developed a crush on Trip, though no doubt she would deny, deny, deny it, even to herself.

The thing that bugged me the most is that I didn't see why Liana and her father felt the need to maintain the lie. They could have just said, "We crash landed here. (Daddy could still lie about how it happened if he felt too guilty to share that part.) We like it here. These are our holographic friends. Now please help us fix our computers and go away."

I got inspired to write a Sassy Gay friend what if for this episode (it's a series of sketches lampooning the stereotypical sassy gay friend). Brought over from the thread in episodes, arcs and Seasons. Here is how different the episode would be if T'Pol had a sassy gay friend:

Sassy Gay Friend: So why are you going all PMS on Mr. Hot Engineer?
T'Pol: He has shown poor judgment and lack of self control where attractive humanoid females are concerned.
Sassy Gay Friends: Plueeeees, girlfriend, he didn't jump your mostly naked bones in decon. Maybe that's what this is about?
T'Pol: I fail to see the logic in your remarks.
Sassy: Denial is not just a river, little Miss Catsuit. If I had rubbed decon gel all over him and got nothing but a thank you for my trouble, I'd be cranky, too. Nice jacket, by the way.
T'Pol: Are you implying I'm jealous of the pixie like female?
Sassy Gay Friend: I'm not just implying, I'm putting it in skywriting. Now, let's hit the mess hall for some pie. I think we might run into someone.

I did interpret T'Pol's bitchiness with Tucker as jealously. My shipper goggles also caught how intense Jon got when T'Pol was taken. :hearteyes :hearteyes :hearteyes Ship goggles are fun.

Honeybee, you have to write some more "Sassy Gay Friend" scenes! That was hilarious!
