New Life?

:Hello Would anyone be interested in helping me create some interest in this site again? Starting threads? Participating in discussions? Writing and reviewing? Or is everyone content to allow The Delphic Expanse to become an archives and nothing else? I can be content either way, but it was sure fun when people were actively participating. What do you think? :stickpoke :)

I am noticing this in a lot of Trek places lately, where the participation is down drastically.

Yeah!!! :cheering :waveit :woohoo This is a good start. Thank you, Cap'n Francis!

There are definitely some stories I want to review in the next couple of days. Maybe we can get a discussion going. If nothing else, we can always talk about the highs and lows of writing.

Whatever happened to the workshops or the group critiques for a chapter in progress? This made this site special and always appealed to me because it helped me focus on improving my writing.

I really hope we can get things moving again. It would be great to be able to renew some old acquaintances and make new friends.

I've noticed the same as jespah. There seems to be a diminished interest in all things Trek, at least when it comes to online forums. That's sad, given that this is an anniversary year.

But hey, count me in!

I especially like these ideas:

Definitely up for this. I'm still trying to get past some kind of motivation block to finish up some fics and get serious with some other fic ideas. On top of that, I've got an original novel in the works and having the same obsessive, daily, passionate interest in it, but still struggling to write.

If I can get my butt in gear to finish Cenote by the end of this month, can I count on y'all to discuss it?

They're still available, but I think the last time anyone took advantage of one was in 2012. Or me, in 2014, but I did that in a chat session with a few folks, rather than in the forum.

I would be very happy to organize and host a workshop for anyone who would like to have a chapter, a story, or just an idea discussed and critiqued. And I'll throw this one out there - I'd be happy to lead a group discussion and sharing session on the art of beta-ing someone else's fic. Those of us who do that, tend to just do it in isolation, I think. Could be an interesting discussion.

Since this is a small group to start with, do we want to limit this to Trek? Or shall we open this up to any of our other attempts at writing?

Also, it's been YEARS since I attempted to lead a video workshop and - though I'm not quite ready to lead us all through that - I would be interested in leading a sound editing workshop. You know, for anyone who would like to produce an audio file of their fic?

Agreed!

Why don't we start with some introductions? It's been long enough that a bit of getting reacquainted might be in order. Someone want to start that thread in the Social Forum?

Intros would be nice. And original writing, which is about 95% of what I do these days, anyway. :)

I'd like to get back to writing some Enterprise fanfic.

*stunned silence*

I know. I've been absent for about 2 1/2 years. But that's how life goes. I'll give y'all a brief update under a Social forum thread.

I'm working on revising my first multi-chapter fic. It makes me a little nervous, but getting feedback in a workshop or a group critique would probably be very helpful.

Multiple beta opinions would be really helpful.

Also - I am doing a writing project. It's for school but school is ending soon. However, I own the domain and am going to continue, at least for a while. So I am thinking of how to do that. One idea is a round table about a few writing things. This is not Trek-related, but it is writing-related and fan ficcers are more than welcome. I am thinking of topics like writing people of color without resorting to clichés, writing a sex scene, getting inspiration when the well runs dry, that sort of thing. Perhaps this could be an entrée to that as well?

Re-introductions are underway, thanks to Kathy, in the Where the heck have I been? thread.

I've cleaned up the Workshops area, and all the previous active ones are now locked and in the Workshop Archive. I'll do as Honeybee did with previous workshops and delete after the ones who had a fix workshopped give the okay. We're ready to get started there if someone wants to step forward with something to workshop.

I've posted a thread for talking about beta-ing other's work and sharing insight. Doing the beta thing.

And finally:

I love this idea. How were you thinking of accomplishing the round table, jespah? Is it a blog-like environment? Chat?
