I didn't watch more than one or two episodes, but I was impressed with the star of Spartacus: Blood and Sand, who has passed away at 39. (My age)

How sad! I know that he was expected to recover but then took a turn. RIP.

This is so sad. He did an excellent job in Spartacus and I hoped he could recover. On another note, I realize television is all about the money and the bottom line. However, I thought Starz showed some class by delaying season two and putting on a prequel instead, Giving Andy time to see if he could recover. The execs actually seemed to show some compassion in this instance.

Yes, I think they truly seemed to like him and think they had a budding star in him as well. Also, I think they recognized that he was the heart of the show - and they were correct that it did not survive without him.
But you're correct, I think they did everything they could to stick by him.
I also here that the producers of Dexter worked to keep Michael C. Hall, arranging shooting around his treatments. Of course, he is that show as well.
