So, a good friend of mine and I were trying to decide on the funniest movie ever this week. We narrowed it down to three:

The Producers (Mel Brook's one from the 60s)
Airplane!
The Big Lebowski

Anyone have any other suggestions?

Napoleon Dynamite. The more you think about it afterward, the funnier it gets. Also, it gets funnier on subsequent viewings.

"Hysterical" Yes, that's the name of the film. It's a cult classic that's hard to find. Campy, but perfectly so. I love that film. If you like parodies and can procure a copy at a rental store -- you must check out this film!

2nd favorite -- Monty Python & the Holy Grail. I used to be able to quote the entire film word for word.

Hmmm...
Monty Python and the Holy Grail used to top my list
Now it'd probably be Despicable Me if I were watching with the kids. Those little yellow guys xeroxing their butts even made me laugh.
But I think my current favorite would be Fanboys!

I thought of three others:

A Fish Called Wanda
This is Spinal Tap
The Hangover

Stealing Harvard. Luke Wilson, Tom Green, Dennis Farina, and the actress who played Breathalizer Chick in The 40 Year Old Virgin (forgot her name). It just never stops being funny. And Tom Green's character reminds me so much of my friend John...who happens to be the older brother of the guy that totally reminds me of Napoleon Dynamite.

These are all on my lists of candidates for Funniest Movie Ever. If I had to pick one though ...? I can't really. It just depends on the kind of humor I'm into at the time.

Some others I'd add to the list: "Ferris Bueller's Day Off", "Shaun of the Dead", "The Princess Bride" and "Airplane". For classics, "Some Like it Hot" and "Blazing Saddles" and "Young Frankenstein".
