New Shows You Might Follow

Postby Misplaced » Sat Sep 25, 2010 11:49 am

It's premiere time, and while we get to see some of our favorites getting back in action (for me: Glee, Chuck & Castle to name a few -- some of my other favorites haven't premiered yet), there are always the new series wandering onto the television stage, full of hopeful faces and a raging desire for ratings.

So far, what new shows have you watched the premieres of that you think "alright, I'll watch next week and see what happens."?

Admittedly, there are several that I've DVR'ed and haven't watched yet. But I've had the opportunity to watch the premieres of "Outlaw", "The Whole Truth", "Lonestar" and "The Event". I tried out a couple of new sitcoms as well: "Mike & Molly" and "!@#$ My Dad Says".

Out of all those, I'll be watching the next episode of "The Event" as it's definitely something meant to replace "Lost" (though the same could be said of "Flashforward"). Depending on how they handle things, I'm not sure whether or not I'll be an ardent follower.

"The Whole Truth" I'll dvr, if nothing else conflicts and watch whenever I'm bored. It's actually a pretty neat show, but I wouldn't cry if I missed it for some reason.

"Lonestar" did nothing for me. I don't mind "bad guys turning good" shows ("White Collar" and "Leverage" come to mind) but I struggled, as a woman, to feel sympathetic for a man who was desperate to hang onto both his girlfriend and his wife. I probably would have found the show more watchable if he wasn't double dipping.

"Outlaw" also... meh for my taste. I don't know if you remember "Shark" from years ago, but that was WAY better.

"Mike & Molly" was decent. Another that I wouldn't mind catching from time to time when it's on.

"!@#$ My Dad Says" I couldn't finish the episode. Just wasn't funny. (My two favorite sitcoms are "The Big Bang Theory" and "Rules of Engagement" and those had great premieres!)

There are a few more that I've got waiting in the DVR, but so far, I only found one new show I'll be catching weekly.

I know it seems like I watch a ton of TV, but really I don't. I usually save most of my shows to watch when I'm bored. Sometimes it'll be a couple weeks before I get to something! LOL

How 'bout you? Picking up any new series this year?

Y'know, as insane as it sounds, I haven't even hooked up my TV yet since I've moved. I guess I sorta feel like what's the point without access to cable.

Though I think I'm gonna try to watch Detroit 187 on the web, because it's shot right here. Most of the pilot was shot in Atlanta, but I hear after that it was all shot in Detroit. And everyone around here seemed to respond pretty positively, comparing it to Hill Street Blues or NYPD Blue, saying it was fun to hear actual street and neighborhood names that are local.

Does planning to watch Ken Burns' Baseball: The Tenth Inning count? I might check out Law and Order: LA if it's convenient. I don't have cable except for the Internet, ostensibly so I can work (not that that's happened today), so my choices are only what's on free over-the-air. I don't have a DVR and my VCR can't tape anymore since the digital switchover. As I said before, I'm pretty happy with my classic TV station and 5 channels of PBS.

This sounds terrible, but I'm resisting watching any new series. As hubby put it, we keep track of too many series already: Castle, Leverage, Eureka, Royal Pains, Burn Notice, Mythbusters, Bones, NCIS, and a few others.

I'm going to watch the encore presentation of the new Hawaii Five-O (on very shortly) out of curiosity. I remember it from the first time around. Back then, it was pretty neat, especially the Hawaiian scenery for those of us who had just gotten a color TV. Now, when I watch the old reruns, it seems kind of stodgy and dull. So it will be interesting to see how they pepped it up to keep viewers.
Old enough to know better, but that's never stopped me before.

I was like that. The only new things I took on were Warehouse 13 and SGU.. Oh, and V.

So I guess I was nothing like that last year... :damnfunny

But I did recall saying no to other shows because there's only so much TV you can watch.

But now that Heroes and Trauma are gone, I decided it's okay to take on one in the place of two. That's progress.

I know what you mean, Kathy. I think a lot of it is the kind of cases they had. I doubt that the new Five-O is going to be so Nixon-era law and orderish. And there's new cars and new techniques for catching bad guys - after all the CSIs, there has to be. It appears to me that the age difference between McGarrett and Williams is going to be much less to virtually nonexistant. Personally, I think that's too bad because I liked the Lord-MacArthur dynamic (and I'm not talking slash). One of the other things I appreciated about the old Five-O was the diverse cast. Asians weren't just bad guys anymore and Hawaiians weren't just surfer dudes. And it was really neat that they could be taken seriously as characters in a real place in the here and now, not just in a futuristic space saga.

Oh! I forgot about Warehouse 13. We watch that too.

And the way my luck goes...just tried to watch the new Hawaii Five-O, and the channel kept cutting out. It's a local channel carried by our satellite company, and this particular channel always seems to have technical problems. All the other channels were fine, of course. After about 10 minutes, we gave up trying to watch it.

I'm enjoying the return of my favorites of course, but as for new shows ...

... I'm in the same boat as some, with too much going on to really want to find another show I like and watch every week. On the other hand, I've added a bunch of new shows to my season's pass on the TIVO, and all for one reason: I may end up on them. I've already been an extra on two of them and I'm keeping an eye on extras casting for another two while I've auditioned several times for under-five parts on a couple of others. At this point, TV watching has become research. :-)

If you want to know which ones, PM me. I don't want to post more than that in the open.

Apart from "Justified", the only thing I'm really really looking forward to is HBO's Game of Thrones. Everything else I watch(ed), whether it is NCIS or Burn Notice or Chuck, has disappointed me this year to the point I'm not watching them anymore.
