One of my favorite actors of all time, and one of the greatest wits of all time and one of the most gorgeous men of all time:

Here's a scene from Lion in Winter:

I just now saw that.
He was in so many things, such a brilliant and unique actor, but I'll always remember him best as Lawrence of Arabia. Rest in peace, Sir.

This made me so sad. I looked at my collection of VCR tapes and DVDs (and thought about a few I wish I could buy), and there were a ton of Peter O'Toole films.
Lawrence of Arabia: Absolutely beautiful in the remastered version Steven Spielberg was involved with. That movie is a reason to have HD electronics and the biggest flat screen TV you can afford. And then there's Maurice Jarre's soundtrack. It's my favorite movie.
Lord Jim: Best advertisement for a Joseph Conrad book there is. Mr. O'Toole could get me to read it when no English teacher could.
Beckett: Mr. O'Toole, Richard Burton and a great play. Is it necessary to say more?
The Lion in Winter: Mr. O'Toole, Katherine Hepburn and a gorgeous John Barry soundtrack.
The Night of the Generals: Dark, disturbing wartime whodunit with Mr. O'Toole being "bad crazy." By the way, Omar Sharif is in this one, too.
Goodbye, Mr. Chips: Sweet, gentle film that is guaranteed to make you cry at the end (just in case you're having a day where you need that).
Man of La Mancha: OK, I admit that dubbing his voice for the songs doesn't work, but Mr. O'Toole has always had the "look" for someone who would tilt at windmills. His T. E. Lawrence had that "look." He's great as Don Quixote.
Masada: Back in the desert and still gorgeous (and so is Jerry Goldsmith's soundtrack).
My Favorite Year: A send up of both Errol Flynn and some of the more colorful parts of Mr. O'Toole's own past. Again, a sweet, gentle and very funny movie.
