Well, for those of our members who are in New York and New England, be safe!

I got out of work early today, but where I am it's supposed to be just a few inches. We're on the tail end. But I did go get snow melt and snacks at the grocery store!

I bought 50 lbs. of rock salt yesterday (this is not an exaggeration). We are in the band that's supposed to get 30". Or, in metric, a LOT.

Watching the news reports and the Weather Channel, I am absolutely flabergasted by the amount of snow that has fallen in such a short time in places like Hartford, Conn. They keep referencing the big storm of 1978. I'm going to date myself here, but I remember that. This one appears even worse.

I do remember in '78 that, at the small college I was attending in the Midwest, the student body was called together and told, yes, there would be enough food in the cafeteria until more supplies could be delivered. :o Of course, the college was out in the boonies, about 15 miles from the closest grocery store. I also remember walking on sidewalks that had been cleared, with snowpiles taller than I am on either side.

I hope any of you TDE members near Nemo are all right and taking care of yourselves.

By the way, since I wasn't paying attention, I have learned that unlike Hurricanes, big storms are not named by the National Weather Service but are now being named by the weather channel. The name Nemo came from them, and the National Weather Service feels that if you name every storm - then it will diminish the seriousness of the really big ones. I'm torn, because naming storms is succinct but they make a fair point.

Still, lots and lots of snow out there.

We just got the edge of it where I am. Only three inches, I feel like we dodged a bullet.

You are lucky.

Some pics. First is from my home (I live in the western section of Boston). Our official total was 22" -

This was taken on my parents' deck (they live on Long Island, on the North Short) -

I'm up here in Maine. Spent about two hours digging out about two feet of snow. Fun!

Thank goodness for snowblowers.

I'm really glad to hear that everyone got through this storm (I know, I'm late!). I know it was a rough one but, wow, some of those photos were spectacular!

We had our own nasty storm. I believe 6 people died (including a young boy when a tree fell on him and his mum). T'was a crazy, wild, scary few days. We were lucky, though, didn't get the flooding that was being predicted, though one of the minor cities north of us was devastated by flood waters.
