I pretend like I don't. But really I do, on and off. I'm on another pause at the moment, summoning the strength to go back and finish my 10 generation legacy. It's not as fun as it should be, I got frustrated with never being able to make custom content work.

Ohhh what problem are you having with custom content. I'm awesome at getting that to work. I'm only just getting Generations now.

I play with an iMac, though technically I shouldn't use that machine and I don't know if that's part of my problem, and I think it's .package files that I can't get to work.

I also think it would be more fun if I could get some of the expansion packs, so far I just have plain old Sims 3.

I used to play Sims 2 like a fiend. After Sims 3 was released, I played it for a few months but slowly lost interest. I'm among the small portion of their fan-base that loved the game for its genetics, but then they watered it down to 50-50 in Sims 3. Also a lot of the gameplay either didn't work or wasn't interesting w/o a core mod. At least, that was my experience.

I played the SIMS pretty heavily for a while and then petered out of it once I got all the cheat codes and could build the gargantuan mansion on the most expensive plot with every gadget imaginable. I only briefly played with SIMS 2 and a couple of the expansion packs and never picked up SIMS 3. How does it compare to the previous game play?

I still love SimCity though I haven't played it in ages. Sometimes, when I was having a bad day, I'd go and create a large, thriving city with no disasters ... and then turn them all on, including the monsters, and yank all the funding from the transportation department. It was great stress relief.

For me, there are some elements of the game that were a long time in coming. Story progression, in theory, was a great idea. The rest of the town ages along with your active family, and with lives of their own. In practice, not so much. There were many problems with the base game's SP such as families you were attached to packing up and moving to limbo, clone babies, and house hopping (try finding a favorite inactive sim with that one).

There were player-created mods that helped with these issues, but the way the game was built, there could only be one of these "core mods" used in the game at a time. The most robust of them all is maintained by its creator that insists on time-bombing each update.

Also, it seems that EA Games is trying to move toward an online model again adding quests, buying in-game items from their online store, and what not.

The look of the sims aren't that different from those in TS2, but with a lot of color options. Perhaps too many. And genetics, as I'd mentioned before, have been watered down from the simplified TS2 version. But since you barely played TS2, I don't think you'd miss it. My overall opinion is that it's a good game but it could have been great.

Yeah, I used to do something similar in Pharoah. Because sometimes I just didn't feel like paying tribute to the gods!
