For the Americans, I hope you have a great 4th of July weekend.

And here is a video of the NYPD bomb squad blowing up 5,000 pounds of contraband fireworks.

I'd be more impressed if they'd waited until dark.

Happy 4th.

I love the description below

...leaving many New Yorkers without even the chance to injure themselves or set their apartments on fire...

Took me back to my childhood, before there were laws against fireworks in NYC. I knew someone that was maimed in an accident, and every year there were rockets that accidentally shot into someone's open window or in a tree next to someone's house/2-3 story apartment building. Hubs says he used to watch the NYPD do this every year from his balcony in Co-op City.

My brother actually set me on fire with a firework when I was in junior high. It wasn't his fault, the firework, which was designed to shoot up in the air and shoot sparkles while making a buzz sound, had a bad seam. It went sideways instead of up.

My shirt caught fire, but a combination of 80s-era baggy clothes and the fact that I was on pain meds, allowed me to beat out the flames. I only had first degree burns, thankfully. But I've been somewhat firework phobic ever since. I still have the shirt with a perfect firework sized hole burned through in two place on the sleeve, where the fabric was doubled over.

Whoa, HB, that is a close call. The worse fireworks disaster almost took off a thumb of one of the young adult men, however, he had a great surgeon and was able to keep his digit.

We actually have a fireworks ban now, since Texas has been so hot and dry. Makes sense to me. I do not really need them, however they are pretty, when it is safe.

Grilled steaks and salads are in order for us!

My holiday weekend has already been kicked off! The salon is closed today, so Mom drove Grandma down here to see my new apartment. I drove Grandma around campus to show her where I go to school, and then the three of us went out for lunch. It was a little early, so the local cool place I wanted to take Grandma for fish and chips wasn't open yet, so we ended up at Olive Garden for lunch.

Tomorrow, I'm driving out there for the family BBQ, and to do haircuts/color.

And my air conditioning is working great! :tickled

That's so great Aquarius! I'm glad everything work out and you got a nice visit with Mom and Grandma! And an excuse to clean house, too! :)

And this is marginally off topic, but I will always have great affection for the Olive Garden because it is the subject of the most Onion-like real news article of all time. Yeah for the Olive Garden!
