LiveJournal Peeps...

All right, explain how this place works to me. I have had an account there for years, but barely use it. I got it so I could join some icon communities (yep, my secret weapon to making half-way decent avatars) but I didn't even know that people posted their fanfic on that site until recently.

I don't know how to make that work, especially how to find communities. I'm not so concerned about finding an ENT community... since I'm quite happy to live here. But I am a fan of Sarek/Amanda (like nearly tied with Trip/T'Pol in my passion and ardor for the couple), and I'd lke to expand my horizons, so to speak.

I know a few of you post your fanfic on LJ... so help a poor girl out!

There should be a search feature. Type in "Sarek and Amanda" and see what you get in terms of communities. From there you can scope it out and decide if you want to join.

LJ's search function leaves a lot to be desired.

I find more comms through doing a six degrees of separation thing. I look at user info for general comms and sometimes get affiliated comms listed. If I find someone who is writing my pairing, I look at what they belong to. Etc.

Some of the fic100 or challenge comms are also treasure troves for finding people writing particular shows or pairings. But again, finding them involves being a little bit of a detective.

You can also do a google search using pairing + livejournal.com, see what comes up.

ETA: This should help! http://www.livejournal.com/interests.bm ... rek/amanda

I guess I should say I'm kayjayuu on LJ

All right, thank you! I found some communities for all my lovely pairings.

Next set of questions: How does one do a "cut" and how does one post to the community?

Thanks!

An LJ cut is

If you want to have anything outside of the cut (not hidden behind the link) you close it with

Some comms are closed, which means you have to join to post. Go to the user info while logged in and you get options to join or watch. Watching means it shows up on your flist (friends list) but you don't have/want posting access.

I've been on LJ for almost ten years, I think. It's my home on the web. What's your LJ? Can I friend?

Another way to search for communities and others is to put variations of "sarek and amanda" in your user bio's interests/likes. They'll become links that will automatically search for others, both people and communities when you click on them.

I'm there as EntAllat if you want to add me. I haven't used it much though, even for the purpose I started it for.

Another LJ person here. I'm mareel there too, as well as mareel_icons which I use for playing around with icon challenges.

My journal isn't specifically restricted to friends-only, but some of my fic is posted as friends only since it cuts down on spammy comments. I'm happy to friend any of you who request it. I don't post a lot, but like entkayjay, I've been on LJ for a very long time, originally having joined to participate in an ENT writing community. Except for the drabbles I write for this forum :D my fic all gets posted there first. I do agree that the search functionality leaves much to be desired though.

I'm togoboldly on LJ and I love the ease of finding fandom community and camaraderie there. I also have a writing journal, erdboden, and you can find the link in my profile here.

I'm luckycricket_1 on LJ. I update it now and again. Most of my fic is on Dreamwidth, though.
