Music Lovers--I need your help!!!

Postby Aquarius » Tue Feb 01, 2011 6:51 am

I have been looking for a particular song and am having no luck. It's either by the Smiths or Morrisey as a solo artist. I'm totally blocked on the lyrics (otherwise I'd just google the fragment I know and get an answer); it had to be somewhat popular because I've heard it played on 89X's "Time Warp" program as well as any station that would play New Wave/Alternative Classics.

The only thing I can tell you about the song itself--and this may not even help at all--is that it has a synth melody that reminds me a lot of the vocal melody in Ultravox's "Reap the Wild Wind".

Can anybody help? I know it's not much to go on, and what there is to go on is pretty cracked out.

"How Soon is Now?" by the Smiths? That's their most well-known song, according to daughter. (I have no idea myself!)
Old enough to know better, but that's never stopped me before.

Nope, and nope. I played samples of those on Amazon.com before I got to this point of having to ask.

It didn't reach the popularity of "How Soon is Now," which "everyone" knew whether they listened to that kind of music or not.

Here's the video to Ultravox's Reap the Wild Wind. When they sing the phrase "reap the wild wind", it's very similar note/chord-wise to the synthesizer melody in the song I'm searching for., as well in terms of rhythm and other patterns. Not exact, but close enough that you could totally do a remix/mashup between the two.

Thanks for the help so far!

I found a short playlist here: Time Warp Is it anywhere in that list? I didn't immediately hear anything that sounded like Reap the Wild Wind to me, except maybe Blood and Roses. There's one by the Smiths called "There is a Light That Never Goes out".

Case closed!! EntAllat gets the DJ Detective award! 8)

The song is "There's a Light That Never Goes Out." The synth melody I was talking about doesn't start until about 2:00 into the song, that synthesized string part. Like I said, it doesn't match up exactly to the Ultravox thing...but it's one of those things where I was first taught audio production in the late 80s so I think a lot in terms of remixes and mashups when I hear music, and sometimes I hear relationships to things that other people don't. ;-)

And I probably listened to part of this song before while searching for it last time, but either wasn't given the right piece of it, or decided in the first 30 seconds (for some reason) "no, this isn't it." I almost gave up on it today but I listened I realized that the melody stuck in my head could possibly work with what I was hearing...I'm glad I stuck with it!

Thank you!! Now it can quit bugging me.
