Don't Be Modest

So, I was polishing (with help) my old story Family Secrets. And rereading a chapter toward the end, I said to myself "damn, Malcolm is awesome in this chapter."

Anyway, don't be modest. What scenes/stories have you written that are your favorites?

My description of music in "His Companion." I'm VERY proud of that!

My story "Flying Blind," in which Malcolm must cope with losing his eyesight. I had to come up not only with descriptions of what he was going throughbut also ways for him to cope.

I was also re-reading a story I wrote some time ago called "Switched." In it, Hoshi and Jon have switched bodies. To add a twist, Hoshi and Malcolm are in a relationship. The part that made me go, "Damn! That's was pretty good," was when Jon, in Hoshi's body, had to fend off an advance from Shran. Malcolm comes to the rescue, then goes on to point out that Jon has certain limitations now that he's in a smaller, physically weaker body, and Jon admits he might have to change how he does things if the body switch is not reversible.

My time-shifted AU in “This Time”. I don’t usually write stories that require a lot of plot pieces to fit together, but I think this one did a good job of interweaving canon events with the developing relationship between Jonathan and Malcolm.

And I am still very attached to “Without Change” for its images and setting, and for the way it helped me define so much of my view of Archer/Reed.

"Reflections of Another Universe." Before I finally revisited the series and started writing "Dark Echoes," I re-read "Reflections" (after having not looked at it for years) and was amazed that all that intrigue came from my little ol' head. In particular, I love the first scene in chapter 15, where Trip has finally escaped the Vulcans and is trying to make it back to the Enterprise when he discovers that Reed has led a successful mutiny. I am rather proud of the space battle that ensues.

And I rather like how "Indelible" turned out.

Though not released yet, because it's still being worked on, my proudest achievement is the story that started my adventure into writing, The Ties That Bind. It was my first ever fictional writing, and the few people who have read some of what I have written have been very excited by it. One of Alyson's responses was enough to make me blush:

Bottom line, your very first draft that you ever sent to me (with no experience under your belt) was better written and better developed than anything...

Yes, I've left the end off deliberately...

Anyways, I cannot wait to finish it, but it will be a while because of the different path S5 has taken and I have to make a few changes, plus edit the way I've written it. But I'd have to say that my favorite scene so far is what I call in my mind, The Captain's Quarters. It's after Trip has been returned to the Enterprise and is fighting for his life and how Archer finally breaks. I think it's a powerful scene, myself! *blushes*

And Misplaced... Indelible... To die for...

What am I most proud of?

"F*ck you, Trip."

 Though I should probably be ashamed of being so proud of that.
