A lot of us make new year's resolutions to exercise more...but you can't forget to exercise your MUSE MUSCLE! Prompts are a great way to do that.

Most of you know how this goes, but if you don't, it's something like this: Every month, I give you a prompt, either a single word or a short phrase.You write an Enterprise story based on whatever the prompt inspires. You don't have to use the word or phrase in your story, just write what comes to mind as a result. Any length, so we'll take epics and drabbles. Any genre -- gen, slash, and het are all welcome. Any style -- humor, romance, suspense, action, whatever you've got.

Write it. Get it beta read. Submit it to the archive. Congratulations, you're an author!

Plan to have mine finished for beta reading this weekend.

I have an idea for a response to this prompt. Let me get through the story I'm trying to finish, and I'll put it to paper.

Oh, I'm always interested, I check everytime you post a prompt, it's a matter of muse finding a plot... or something!

Miscalculated

“I know you won’t smile baby, but try not to look so grim.”

“My face is what it is, Trip. How do you propose I alter it?”

Suddenly, a breeze ruffled her hair, blowing a single strand across her eye. Trip smiled and quickly took the picture. He took several others after she readjusted her hair, but he knew which would go to the artist.

Several years later at Starfleet headquarters…

Admiral Jonathan Archer headed down the corridor toward the conference room. Ahead he noticed his friend, Captain Trip Tucker, walking toward the same room.

Portraits of the finest Starfleet captains lined the walls, but Trip only gave them a cursory glance until, abruptly, he came to a stop in front of a particular picture.

Jon walked up behind Trip who was staring at the official portrait of his wife, Captain T’Pol Tucker. The little wisp of hair across her eye made Jon smile.

“Did she ever forgive you for that, Trip?”

“She wouldn’t admit it, but she knew how much I love this picture,” Trip said with a rueful smile. “You know, everyone always asked her why she married a man she would outlive by a hundred years. Nobody ever thought to ask how I would live without her.”

Trip slumped slightly, then took a deep breath and straightened his posture.

Jon put a hand on Trip’s shoulder. “That’s because no one ever calculated on a war with the Romulans taking our dearest blood from us.”
