March History Challenge

This challenge is designed to get some “historic” fics in the archive and give people a chance to write scenes off the ship.

Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to write an Enterprise fic set in a historical time period randomly assigned to you. You may choose what pairing or pairings, if any. You may choose whether our heroes are ancestors of the characters we know (think “Carbon Creek”) or time travelers (think “Carpenter Street”) or even our specific heroes in an earlier incarnation.

The only rule is that you write the period that you are assigned and a significant part of the story takes place in that period — not on a planet with a similar culture to that period, but the period itself.

If you want to sign up, post in this thread. On February 16th, the thread will be locked and you’ll get a PM with your historic period. I have created a secret list of time periods, and I will assign them at random.

I will then post the list of periods, but I will not reveal who got assigned what.

Sign me up! This challenge will be a good warm up exercise for writing some two of the other fics I have on the back burner. :D

Now, I have a question... I am not signing up (maybe I'll do one later, "just because," when I'm caught up on my current works.)

Anyway... can this be completely AU? (Meaning they don't have to travel in time or be the ancestors.. the rest was a little unclear for my addled brain). Basically, I'm asking if they can be our beloved characters with the same personalities who have been born and raised in this time period.

Over at the Spock/Uhura group (and some with Sarek/Amanda -- why yes, I like Vulcan/Human pairings!), they write some incredible AU stories. I'm currently following one that takes place during the Dynasties of China (with the twist that Vulcans live on Earth with humans).

Anyway... just wonderin'... even though I'm not writin'.

Ooo... I'm seriously considering this, however, yes there is a but, history was never my strong point so I don't know if I'd be any good at this!?! Let me mull this over...

thinkin'......

Okay, I'll give it a go!

If I can't pull thoughts from my brain, would someone be willing to drag them out?

Yeah!

And I'm signing up myself! I have an unfair advantage because I have access to the list - but I'll randomize myself like everyone else. :writer

Yes! This can work. The only caveat I have on the time periods is that it isn't a "North Star" situation where you are on a planet that is Earth-like. This is going to take place on Earth, which adds to the challenge. But it can be another incarnation of our beloved characters!

I have only submitted drabbles, so this will be a first for me; however, I love learning, so will step out and try this. I will probably need an experienced beta, one that can really help me learn what to do and what not to do. Thanks!

Oh, and I MUST MUST MUST remember NOT to double space after sentence endings. Did it all through this one post. ahhhhhhhh, and then again! :censored
