Yes, this is an actual category over at the Warp Five Complex, that got its start on the EntST yahoo lists. The idea is to come up with the most creative ways to... make Malcolm nervous with his aquaphobia. Or do him in.

Of course, it's also been taken in a metaphysical sense, drowning him in lurv.

Thought I'd give everyone a head's up and see what we could come up with here!

I almost forgot about DMM! I've written something for it the last three years in a row... or is it four? Whatever. Only once was it in actual water. Now I'll have to come up with yet another way to drown him.

Nope, no joke! I wasn't involved when it started, but I'm guessing that it came about because of Malcolm's aquaphobia. It's interesting to read the stories, though, because they run the range from angsty and serious to very humorous.

One of the best ones I ever read, IMHO, though, was one where Malcolm was on a team to visit an alien spaceship whose species breathed in liquid rather than air, and he and the other Enterprise crew members visiting it had to be adapted to breath liquid. It's titled Step Into Liquid by Shi Shi.

I believe it was a challenge on one of the lists, which then simply grew into an annual event. There's a reason it was in November, too, but I can't recall.

Well, they had that other month on the EntST yahoo boards, which is in May. Maybe they wanted to distance it so that writers had some breathing room inbetween if they wanted to participate in both.

You might ask volley about it. For the longest time she had the months listed on her fanfiction.net site, so she might know the origns of them all:

NOVEMBER: Drown Malcolm Month
JANUARY: Sir, We Have A Problem
APRIL: 'Tis But A Scratch
JULY: Messhall Midnight Munchies
OCTOBER: Wasn't It A Grand Explosion?

And for a short time she had one of my suggestions listed for August:
"Bug Trip Month"


(The Twitter player for Malcolm once manged to stick a reference to both "Drown Malcolm Month" and "Wasn't it a Grand Explosion" in something Malcolm 'said' right at the start of November last year. Too funny.)

But I think Drown Malcolm Month is a veritable ENT fanfiction tradition now.
