The Mirror Universe

There's a whole list of wonderful MU fics - it's a fun place to play after all.

I wrote my TnT fic, "A Mirror Cracked" with idea that I'd resolve the whole mind meld issue, and while it took me awhile, I managed to do it and decided T'Pol was just doing her job and didn't mean to do any harm. Tucker sided with Archer, so he opened himself to action. Sure, it took me 11 chapters for them to resolve this - but it was fun.

Misplaced is currently revamping her "Reflections of Another Universe". Pdsldl has got "Double Vision" going on.

And Lady Rainbow has her "A Pact With Mephisto" running.

Obviously, the MU is a fertile creative ground. I tend to like my MU fics that take the approach that the show did: These are not the evil versions of the RU characters, but what they would have become had they grown up/had to operate in the harsh world that is the MU. I had my main characters (TnT) really want to be like their RU counterparts, but they also knew they couldn't. They had to reach for the better versions of themselves that were available in their own universe.

I haven't really begun it yet, but I've got an idea for a really twisted and delicious MU fic. I also believe that the characters are bent reflections of their RU selves rather than just evil opposites. But I do plan to push the darkness.

I just love how MU Hoshi seems so different from RU Hoshi. Her MU counterpart doesn't have any of the hangups and isn't afraid to be assertive, both sexually and otherwise.

If they're bent reflections of the RU, then what does that say about RU Hoshi? She's got a touch of bad girl somewhere hidden (which actually makes the remark about a floating poker game seem plausible). I just wish TPTB and the writers would've written RU Hoshi more like her MU.

MU Hoshi certainly doesn't have the phobias that her RU counterpart has - that's for sure. However, Hoshi certainly proves sexually open in Two Days and Two Nights - not promiscuous - but willing to enjoy a no strings night with someone that she finds attractive. She's most certainly not repressed.

Then, you see how that manifest in MU Hoshi, who lives in a world where free sexuality is a weapon women can wield. And, it seems to me, that MU Hoshi even enjoys her bout of hate sex with MU Archer.

But as I said, I don't like to see MU Hoshi portrayed as pure evil. I think she shows vulnerabilities in the episode - and doesn't turn on Archer until he is responsible for Forrest's death.

And, I tend to agree with the way you portray her in your fic, LR, in that she's about 1000x smarter than Archer. That's probably true in both the RU and the MU.

I also like Lady Rainbow's portrayal of MU Hoshi. I like to fact that Trip is a friend with benefits. They need each other to promote their shared agenda. I just can't warm up to crazy Reed though :P

Yeah, MU Reed is definitely a psychopath. :P

I dunno, he just came across as more of a thug in the episodes. :scratch

But I bet he was more complicated than that. :P

Which is exactly why I am looking forward to your next chapter of "A Pact With Mephisto" - I am guessing you are going to add layers. Interesting layers.

I didn't use Reed that much in A Mirror Cracked, but I did give him clear motivations. And, he sincerely wanted to "save" Hoshi from herself. Sure, his way of saving her was as sick as could be, but he didn't know that.

Double post, but I thought I'd recommend - for those who have not read it - BlueTiger's terrific MU parody fic:

In a Funhouse Mirror Darkly

Do yourself a favor and do not skip Chapter 2. It's brilliant.

Indeed, there is nothing worse than a joke or a parody that falls flat. BlueTiger's parody is mountainous, in terms of not being flat.
