I finally finished my story, which meant I can read this one now. And I loved it! It was nice to see Malcolm's interior thoughtscape while going through the crucible of "Zero Hour," and how they realized what was right there in front of them the whole time.
Great job. Thank you!

When I beta-ed this, I sort of "turned off" the song lyrics - and now that I read it for pleasure - WOW, you are clever, clever, clever. Great use of the song, great use of the episode and deeply romantic story. Squee!
Thanks, Honeybee! And once again, thank you for the beta.
I'm glad you thought the song lyrics fit. This was definitely a challenge in that respect, because the tenor of some of the songs varied widely.

Excellent story Kathy. I just watched this episode several weeks ago and thought about all the potential A/S stories that could manifest from that and it never ceases to amaze me when someone looks at the same thing and comes up with something completely different, yet completely plausible.
I like how you intergrated your songs into the story line. It was well done and not cliche.
You never fail to entertain me with your stories. I look forward to the next one.
Thank you, Artisticmom! Yeah, I saw the potential for A/S there, too, but what struck me even more about Zero Hour as far as relationships was Malcolm's protectiveness toward Hoshi. To actually set a story within the episode was a challenge in itself, because I couldn't change the circumstances, but had to write within them. Sort of like extended missing scenes, I guess. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Bravo, Kathy Rose! Very clever use of the song lyrics! The best part of these challenges is getting to read the things that other people saw in the songs that I didn't -- "Zero Hour" hadn't come to mind for me at all when I made the lists, but now that I see these all framed withing the story, it's like, "Of course! Why didn't I see that before?"
Thanks so much for this. I am looking forward to your next tale.
Thank you, Aquarius! A lot of the songs on the list for me had a dark vibe, and that immediately brought Season 3 to mind. I remember thinking when I first saw Zero Hour that Malcolm seemed very protective of Hoshi, more than he might usually be considering Earth was about to be destroyed. It seemed plausible that, despite the dire situation, he was more concerned for her welfare than saving Earth. And then when I was reading through the transcript for Zero Hour and saw the date of a log -- Feb. 14 (Valentine's Day) -- I just had to write something set at that moment.
