Okay, I thought I had just managed to review this in IE9 (even though it wouldn't let me edit), but then when I hit submit it was a no go and the review disappeared. So I switched to Firefox. And then I found the story. And then I had to log in again. And after I logged in I had to start all over finding the story again. So if this review makes it up I just want you to know how hard I had to work to leave the freaking thing.
Enjoyed the Archer/Hoshi dynamics in both universes, especially RU Hoshi's acknowledgment that she has some MU Hoshi inside her. A little surprised by Archer's skill level, but hey, what a pleasant surprise. Loved the line:
<something about friendly and sloppy since Mozilla Firefox won't allow cutting and pasting ... SHEESH!!!!!>
All right, I've had it. Enjoyed this. Wouldn't mind a sequel ... salud.

Thanks so much! Again, sorry about the trouble with IE9. We can't do much about it, except monitor for the next version of the software which should be out soon.
As for Archer's skill level, my take is that he's portrayed as pretty excellent all things considered in the MU, so it follows that's he'd be skilled but in a different way in the RU. LOL
My take has been that deep down, you're the same person as you are in any universe, just molded by different experiences. So, RU Hoshi recognizes how tough she can be - and that's not necessarily a bad thing.

In one chapter you made me like MU Hoshi more and make me root for MU Hoshi and RU Archer. And MU Archer - can't that guy shut up? - made me like RU Archer even more, so my advice to RU Hoshi is: go for it. ;)

Thank you! I think Jon's probably going to be a bit awkward about getting together with RU Hoshi for a number of reasons, but I certainly meant to imply that RU Hoshi wasn't going to let that stop her! I may just flesh that out eventually. I'm very glad you enjoyed the story.

Seriously, though, this was awesome. I like how the MU characters aren't just their RU "evil twins". And what surprised me was how much I liked it when MU Hoshi told Jon to stop assuming his world's the better one.

I was a bit surprised that Jon is trying to help MU Hoshi, who can be very evil, but Jon has a good heart. Hopefully he can stay out of trouble. His confusion about MU and RU Hoshi is well done.
RU Hoshi is trying to help MU Archer. I am curious how that will work out.
Jon only has a vague sense of how evil MU Hoshi is, and he thinks the people in the other universe are, at the core of their being, the same. He had that experience. And yes, he has a good heart - but he also might be falling into the old "save the girl from herself" trap. And RU Hoshi may just be going through the same thing! Everyone is all topsy turvey and mixed up.

It looks like I have been missing a great story, so I better start read the next chapters as well. Haven't Archer told Hoshi her counterpart is an Empresses? I like MU Hoshi's room. Makes her more human in a way. Great beginning, curious about the next developments.

Archer doesn't know much about the MU, and he certainly doesn't know she's an empress. When he visited (in my story Carnival) he only knew that his counterpart wanted to be Emperor. He doesn't know how that worked out.

Absolutely wicked! First you confuse RU Jon about his feelings and what's going on with MU Hoshi, then what you do to RU Hoshi! I admit I was half afraid MU Travis was luring her away to kill her. I'm glad that wasn't the case, but now you've presented her with a big question -- what to do about this situation.
I do like that RU Hoshi seems to be getting the hang of being empress. As the TOS characters found out when they visited the MU, it's easier to act the part of a barbarian than it is to act civilized. (I keep waiting for MU Hoshi to try and take over the ship. Heh!)
One thing that did strike me in this chapter is that, while there's not a lot of descriptive narrative, I was still able to easily envision what's going on. Part of that, perhaps, is the pace of the events. I wouldn't classify the writing in this chapter necessarily as spare, but I think overly descriptive passages would have bogged it down. It moves along at a very good clip, especially since you alternate scenes from the two universes.
More, please?

Thanks for picking up on the sparsness. Usually, I write far more descriptive but here the sparse felt right for the story. And yes, poor Jon is all confused. He's doing the right thing when he wants to do the wrong one. And RU Hoshi is going to find herself in a very difficult position as well. I thought a lot about how hard it would be for MU Hoshi to be in the RU, which is why she kind of falls apart in the first scene. In a way, the RU is scarier for her than the MU is for her RU part for the exact reasons you've mentioned. I'm working furiously on the next installment, and I hope you won't be disappointed.

LOL! Malcolm shot her! I'm glad he did. Too often he's portrayed as being bewildered or unsure in such circumstances.
And RU Hoshi seems to be getting the hang of things in the MU. I loved her dressing down Travis. I think she just might do alright there.
One thing you brought out that I always thought would be true of MU characters in the RU -- they hate to be confined. It's almost inevitable that MU Hoshi would want to get out of the small quarters she was given. Interesting that she doesn't seem to have the RU Hoshi's clastrophobia.
Enjoying this very much.
I was definitely trying to evoke a little of Shockwave here, with Hoshi far more comfortable with taking advantage of her size to slither through those tunnels! And yes, she hates to be confined and not in control. And our Hoshi is starting to learn the rules in the MU, too! Poor Malcolm, having to shoot T'Pol in North Star and now having to shoot sex kitten Hoshi! Thanks so much for reading and enjoying!

I truly do believe that MU Hoshi and RU Hoshi are the same deep down, with external forces shaping their actions. So, it's going to be very disruptive to MU Hoshi being in the RU. And of course, it will be scary for RU Hoshi to be in the MU. Thank you for reading!
