This prompt is a good year old but what the hell. The prompt is the word Free.

“Feel any different?”

“I feel no different from when you asked the identical question, 4.3 minutes ago.”

“Sorry. Just want things to go smoothly.”

“Your concern is appreciated. Logic might become … impaired. Patience might ameliorate unintended side effects.”

“Huh. A boy! Charles Tucker IV!” An eyebrow lifted. He hastily added, “Or, we could select a name together.”

“My thoughts exactly.”

“Any ideas?”

“Perhaps we can investigate your name’s meaning, and translate it into Vulcan.”

He clicked around his PADD. “Charles means free man. What’s that in Vulcan?”

“Lo-ree-ahn.”

“Let’s mash the sounds together.”

“What do you suggest?”

“Lorian.”

“Acceptable.”

That is a neat story as to how they came up with the name Lorian.

Hey, thank you!

I'm currently writing E2 stuff where she has pretty major logic impairment (the Vulcan-human hybrid version of morning sickness). I have her wailing and demanding real chocolate. :)

Father/Son AU:

It had been a long, hard day in engineering, and Trip was looking forward to a little downtime. So when his father invited him over for beer and water polo, he'd eagerly accepted.

“Glad you could make it, Trip,” Jon said as he entered his quarters. Trip noticed that he seemed a bit…anxious? Excited, perhaps?

Before Trip could ask him about it, Jon quickly added, “Wait just a second. “He went to his desk and picked up a small oblong box. With a smile he handed it to Trip, who was very surprised as well as slightly puzzled. Jon nodded, indicating he should open it.

As Trip did so, Jon explained, "I know you don't wear jewelry, but, when I saw this, well...I thought of you." He shrugged.

Inside the box was a silver bracelet, with his initials engraved. Jon moved to stand beside him, and said, "Turn it over." Tentatively, he turned it to reveal the words 'My Son, My Pride, My Joy'.

Trip was rendered speechless. A part of him felt that he really didn’t deserve such a gift. Instead of voicing these thoughts, however, Trip murmured, "Thanks, Daddy." Looking up at his father, he asked, "How come?"

Jon slipped his arm around Trip, and answered honestly, "Just because."

Hummingbird, you always get so much emotion out of just a few words. I do so love these father/son stories. I hope you never get tired of writing them.
