Juggle

From the buffet, Trip absentmindedly picked up three oranges and began a rhythm of throwing them in the air and from hand to hand.

Malcolm gave this only a passing glance. He knew Trip was a proficient juggler, rarely missing.

T’Pol on the other hand had never seen this skill and stared at Trip with rapt attention. After watching for a while she moved to his side.

“I find this talent to be very arousing,” she softly whispered in his ear.

Malcolm’s head shot up in surprise when he heard the three oranges hit the floor. How odd, he mused.

Thank you. This is for Avian.

He felt miles above the earth as a child. From here, Morgan Tucker watched his family’s lives unfold.

He witnessed a horrendous fight between his parents, although he couldn’t remember about what. The thing that struck him was how his mother never raised her voice and yet won the argument with his father.

He watched T’Resa and her boyfriend making out on the porch swing.

He saw the only tears Grandfather Soval ever shed, to his knowledge, when his parents lost their third child.

To the man he now was, this tree house, his aviary, had been a window to life.

Beautifully poignant, bluetiger!
TRIP: Hold on. You never said anything about feet.
T'POL: Is that a problem?
TRIP: Well, for one thing, I haven't had a shower since this morning, and I know how sensitive that Vulcan nose of your can be.And I'm a little ticklish.Maybe more than a little.

Trip hadn’t meant to stay in Engineering so late, given that the party was set to start in less than an hour. He had only a few minutes to get into his Frankenstein’s Monster costume, which would coordinate nicely with Malcolm’s Dr. Frankenstein.

He got to his quarters, and he opened the door. Inside, he saw that the jack-o-lantern had been lit. T’Pol was standing in the low light.

Trip was flabbergasted by her appearance. She wore one of her usual tight jumpsuits, but it was black and accented with ears and a tail.

“Happy Halloween,” she said.

“Time portals are nearly instantaneous,” assured the Chief Engineer.

“I thought I was getting a time ship.”

“Only to go to the Mirror.”

Their boss, Admiral Carmen Calavicci, walked in. “Your first assignment is to 2151. Have you studied how to fake it as a sous-chef?”

“A little. Why don’t they use stardates?”

“This era’s before all that,” Carmen said, “You’ll find yourself using the old style calendar most of the time; it’s easier that way.”

“Don’t forget to look wide-eyed; it’s all new to ‘em,” said the engineer.

“Welcome to the Temporal Integrity Commission, Mr. Daniels!” enthused the admiral.
